Can i use 10w40 Royal purple?
My local parts stores do not carry a variety of RP oils, and they only have the 10w40 for my car. I know/think we should use 0w40 is Mobile1, but i refuse to use that garbage. so bumping it up a lil, 5w40 would be perfect...
thoughts? 10w40 ok?

Wal-mart sell them, i was there a few day ago. They stock RP 5W30, 10W30, 10W40. I But bought 2 5qt container of Mobil 1 5W30 instead. ~$21 for 5qt. RP is ~$6.45 per qt. I'm surprise Walmart stock them.

Yes, You can run the RP 10w40. In the lab it was better then 0w40 Mobil 1 and goes down to -20 in winter. I've been using it in Miami in my E55 (RP 10w40)and it's great. Now I'm trying the new RP 5w40 I ordered on-line. Just want to see if anything is different in this new oil mix. I called RP and they said no and they emailed me the lab test between mobil 1 0w40 and RP 10w40.

10w-40 is plenty fine, run it and you will like it. I ran 10w-30 and it might be a bit thin for our V8 engines. 10w-40 i think is perfect combo and remember the ratings are a bit deceiving b/c RP performs much better than most other oils when cold so you should be plenty fine.

So last weekend I changed my oil and now using RP 5w40 seems to be the same as the 10w40 I took out of my AMG. The oil looked a little darker then the Mobil 1 0w40 in color coming out, but RP starts out being darker in color compared to Mobil 1.
I do like RP after using it in my E55 and will keep using it. In my racecar I use Amsoil in everything, but I may change to RP? In my motorcycles I use Motul and love it in them.
