alignment question

I'm continuing my research of the W210 E55 before I pull the trigger and buy one.

I've discovered that many high end imports like Jag and BMW require special (expensive) tools available only at dealers to properly align their wheels. Is this the case with this car?

I just had my E55 aligned recently at a local tire store.....no one there indicated that they needed 'special tools' to do the job....car drives nice and striaght now too.

I just had my alignment done by the dealer. Before you say that sounds exclusive, in reality, alignments don't really cost that much. I work in motorsports and work on and align cars, so I could definitely do it myself if I wanted. For the amount you pay to have your car aligned, I wouldn't dare attack it myself. The dealer charged around $150. and used a laser alignment system that doesn't mark up you wheels, and is really quick. Doing it yourself, even if you had the proper equipment, can be frustrating. Plus I have a printout of the exact numbers as they're set, and the range they can be within.

As for special tools required, there aren't any outside some double or triple square sockets.

Hope this helps. I find that although many prices for parts and service continue to go up, alignments tend to stay reasonable. I think the reason is that shops can do them in a matter of minutes now with the laser systems. My dealer charges something like $160 per hour. For that I'm more than willing to change my own oil, sensors, and whatever.

Man, just pull the trigger before that Jag cost you another grand. You will be glad you made the switch. Seriously.
