Time to say "goodbye"....its been great!
Dear fellow E55 friends,
Today I traded in my '99 E55 and sadly I had to say goodbye to the best, most powerful sedan I've ever owned!
After owning the vehicle for exactly one year...and not experiencing any problems whatsoever, I decided it was time now (at 77k miles) to move on. I recieved $16k for it on trade at a local Audi retailer. I decided upon a low mileage, fully loaded '04 Audi A6 twin turbo S-Line sedan. In some aspects this newer car is much nicer than my older E55, but of course, my E55 could blow the doors clean off this newer car!
I want to say its been great being a part of your threads even if its only been since Feburary. The truth be told, I read the threads here on a regular basis and all the recent failures of people's catalytic convertors, MAF sensors and the like made me paranoid that my car would fail any day now too! I am just not in a position to afford expensive car repairs...and I can not repair these cars myself. So, my used '04 Audi has a 4 yr 50k mile warranty over its existing mileage and I also got gap insurance so I am completely covered should 'anything' happen to this car. I did not have that kind of protection on my E55.
Again, I wish each of you all good fortune and keep enjoying your fabulous E55 AMG cars! They are terrific cars and I certainly enjoyed mine....

Au revoir.
I must admit, if funds allowed an RS4 would be sorely tempting.
Or if my lottery numbers come in..... an R8!
Good luck with your new purchase all the same.

I may return one day with the 211 E55 or E63...God that E63 I test drove was incredibly fast!
I got the 2.7T "S-Line" model....only 265 horses but 285 lbs of torque. In the "sport" mode transmission...its not slow by any means...but its also not my old E55 either!
I just felt like it was time for a change. There are things on this new Audi that I didn't have in the '99 Benz...like heated rear seats, steering wheel radio controls, I did not need the "quattro" however, it just slows down the car with all the extra weight etc...and having to turn 4 wheels all the time uses gas. So far, over the past two days, I have averaged only 18.5 mpg. My E55 averaged about 20! Who would believe an engine half the size would use more gas? Makes no sense does it?
Anyway...thanks for the kind words...I'll keep looking in on all of you and your great cars!!!

1997 E300D/05 MINI COOPER S/08 SCREAMIN EAGLE ULTRA CLASSIC
Man, you are stepping out and I am stepping in.
I just wire transferred the money to pay for my 2001 yesterday. Hopefully, it will be on a truck and headed toward Texas by the weekend.
It is hard to believe that the E55 milage is better than a BiTurbo 6. I am just hoping that I will be able to get 15 - 16 mpg. I will keep the Mini Cooper S for when the bucks get low or ride the Harley when I get down to pennies.
Have fun in the Audi, don't know what part of the country you're from but it should be fun in the snow. Milford.

I consistently got 19.5mpg on my 2001 E55 even w/ blended driving of hwy/streets, and it was one of the funnest cars to drive around...power on demand.
since i switched to my 2002 S55, my mileage has gone down dramatically to 15-17mpg blended - very surprising given it's the same engine w/ 350 extra pounds. mileage is not a big deal since i don't drive that much, but i share that fact because it was such a negative surprise...or because the E55 owners are spoiled w/ 20mpg and don't realize it.
enjoy
