2001 E55
2001 E55 Computer Codes
Hi,
I am a new user to this group. We have just bought an 01 E55 with a bad engine and had a new engine put it in. The new one actually came from an ML55, and MB center in NY did the work. We are now getting some error codes and the ABS and ASR lights are on. The two codes that are popping up are C1000 and C1504. Does anyone have any idea how to decipher them?? We have a VAG tool for my Audi's but nothing for the benzes.
Any help would be much appreciated.

an engine from Ml55??? that engine is different than the 55 engines used in other models. it has less hp but more torque (not by much).
anyway why a ML55's engine? you can get a new 5.5 engine from AMG (not the new NEW kompressor). Seems like the dealer doesn't know what they are doing or they just ordered the wrong engine.

ML 55 Engine
It was a price point, dealer wantd $30,000 for the engine, this one was $11,000!!!
I am not sure we will keep the car long... so it didn't seem like a big issue.

Just curious!
Was the "bad engine" disclosed by the previous owner prior to purchase? I hope so. Was the bad engine part of the deal? How much did you pay for a E55 that needed an engine?
Are the ML55's and their engines also built in Affaltherbach Germany or assembled in Alabama?
That is a big price difference in engines. Was the E55 and ML55 engines both available and in country or ordered from Germany? Good Luck.

i would've expect the 55 engine cost around $10k...but $30k that's a lot just for an engine.
the msrp difference for E430 and the E55 was only about $15k...I remember back in 97 i saw this guy with a C280. He modded everything to the spec of the C36 and droped a C36 engine in there. The brand new 36 engine only cost him around 7k (straight from AMG), and he even sold his 2.8 engine for 2k.
