Angry Motor Mounts, Rattling Sound - Help

All:

New user as of today. I'm driving e55, and lately noticing a rattling sound from the drivers side engine compartment. I'm an engine builder (chevy drag car) so I know what a broken motor behaves like. This is different, it's almost like a piston is rattling in the bore or something. It happens under part throttle, as I slowly press the pedal. If I nail the gas the trans downshifts and the car charges hard, rattling isn't really noticeable then. I'm wondering if it's a syptom of the broken motor mount discussion you are having in another post. Any thoughts or previous experience with this and a diagnosis very much appreciated. THank you in advance.

I can quite put my finger on your problem, but I would assume that it is not a motor mount. You will know if you collappse a mount, the car will shake or shudder badly upon start up.

My car has 5k mile on it and between 2000/2400rpm when hot I am experiencing a resonance/boom/rattle under partial throttle. I suspect it may be a loose baffle in the cat/muffler, is this the same noise? My dealer is looking at it next week, more to follow.

shake rattle

Richard Brown,

That sounds your car is making sounds like the exact same thing. It's when hot, it's really noticeable just crusing around town as the car RPMs naturally and is about to shift gears it rattles, gets quite, then rattles a little again on next shift. Please let me know what you come up with at your dealer.

maybe a loose cable, in my C class it rattles when i partly throttle, they fix it but then it came back again till now.... Strange thing is it make rattling noise when u turn your steering wheel to the right, you need to take the service manager with you driving the car.

Apparently the cable touch the driving shaft or something near the gearbox. It's a brake lining cable.
