Trying to purchase E55
Hi. I am on many other forums for my other vehicles, but lately i have been looking at some E55's. I was just wondering what i should look for, and how many miles do the trannys last usually. Thanks

210 E55s are virtually tanks, typical wear items are rear tires, a lot of rear tires, then occasional front ball joints, coil springs, and brakes. I don't know what cars you are coming from, but expect brakes to be very expensive. Drivetrains are pretty solid, thank AMGs handcrafting for that, and the chassis has been around for over a decade now.

+1. The drivetrain and engine are pretty much bullet proof. Regular maintence can be pricey or not too pricey depending on whether you take it to the dealer or DYI.

^^That's so funny. But 100% true...rear tire wear!
These are the BEST cars on the planet I think I should have never given mine up.
Although the car I have now is quite a good car, and the mods are a lot better/cheaper the the W210 E55. That's one thing I didn't like about E55. Now I'm just ranting

There is a reason that so many of the recent Chrysler cars were W210 chassis based cars (magnum & etc.). The W210 is a phenomenal chassis and is true a throw back to an era when AMG used to hand build their cars to the highest of standards, As far as build quality and quality of materials The only MBs that come close and have now surpassed it are the 2007+ mercedes, the 03-06MBs just can't compete with the 00-02 AMGs as far as that quality feel and quality build. Go for it.

A little off-topic, but would any of you rather have an '07 Dodge Charger SRT8 or a w210 E55 AMG?? I'm asking because a friend insists on the SRT8 more than the E55.
Obviusly I'm biased since I'm a big MB fanatic, but the SRT8 is still a monster of car... though that's where it ends.
I dislike the plasticky & cheapo interior trim, as well as other lower quality interior/exterior components.

2010 E550, 02 CLK55 Cabrio - sold
Does the same "bullet-proof"ness apply to the CLK55?
I don't really care if it has 2 or 4 doors i just want a Merc that is both Fast and Tough. The first AMG I drove was a 02 C32, I really liked it, but want to keep my options open as I search for a cherry AMG.

The CLK 55 is a fantastic car also. It rides a little rougher, but not unbearable. Tires are a little cheaper being 17 inch instead of 18s, but don't be wary, it will still give you a breathtaking drive.

The CLK55 is actually a faster than the W210 E55. Both are outstanding cars.
You will love either one!! I do not have kids so no need for the 4 doors of the E55. Also I have a W140 S class to go with it.

get 2000+ , dont get a 99 E55, its just not the same car (no offense to anyone who has one, just the truth). CLK55 is faster b/c its same drivetrain in a car that weighs 300lbs less. Either way both are great platforms and a true throw back to the original era of AMGs (before 03 when everything changed).
