E55 KEV:Did you fix your sunshade rattle?

Hey Kev, I recall a while back you mentioned a moon roof or sun shade rattle in both your old E430 & current E55. Ever get it fixed? If so, what was the fix?

I've started to notice a very slight rattle that seems to be coming from the moon roof's sun shade. But only when the sun shade is slid back in the full open position. The noise is very slight, and it doesn't happen often, only on certain hard bumps taken at speed. It's so minor that I don't know if I want to bother taking it in - "if ain't broke, don't fix it". But if your problem was the same and there was an easy fix, I'd like to know about. Thx.

The dealer replaced the entire sunroof frame under warranty of course - not sure if the original one was cracked or broken.

When using just the sunshade fully open it still rattles a little over really bad broken pavement. I suspect E55's rattle a little more due to stiff suspension and low profile tires. Good Luck.

Thanks a lot Kev! Seems like even after the fix, your rattle condition is about the same as mine is now.

I wonder if it's just something inherent to the sunshade design. I noticed the sunshade itself seems pretty flimsy. Our BMW's sunshade is much more solid in comparison. I guess I'll just live with it for a while, it's not that bad, and the car is absolutely rattle and squeak free with the sunshade closed.

I had a similar rattle in my '02 from new, I took it back to the dealer the next day and they new exactly what I was talking about, evidently they have had several E class vehicles with this same complaint. They said it was a factory fault that never got corrected (which is very scary on a $74K car!). They dropped the headliner and installed some foam blocks between it and the roof and now the rattle has gone.

Richard, thanks for the pointer! Who is your dealer?

Just in case the folks at my dealer aren't familiar with the problem and solution. Thanks again in advance.

Rattles

I still have rattles galore:
- rattles in the sunshade while open,
- rattle on the left front dash between the air duct and windsheild,
- buzzing on the plastic lightfixture near sunroof button,
- rattles somewhere in the ashtray enclosure, sometimes it's the removable ashtray, sometimes elsewhere in the two small rectangular frames that house the ashtray and above shelf.

What's the best way to approach the dealer with such problems?
