Windonw Tinting
Does anybody have pics of what window tint would look like on a black E-class? I live in Texas and I am considering having the windows on my E55 tinted. My neighbor has a black Testarossa with tinted windows and it looks pretty sharp, but I am wondering if it would look OK on an E-class.
Thanks.
Thanks.

It looks pretty good. I used 32 percent Titanium tint black colored tint on mind and love it. I'll post pictures of my car when I get home, if not else already has.

I would like to get the benefits of tinting however I would hate to cover up one of the features which make an E55 different - the blue tinted windows.

Laws in California say no tint at all allowed on the windshield or front two windows, although every shop you go to will be willing to do the front 2's for a little extra. You can get a really light tint on the fronts, you/cops can barely see it. I have 20% tints in back and 50% in front.
Note: anything below 20% (lower percent is darker) really starts to impede vision at night

I want to lower it too!! I was close in getting the rims and kleemans from peter, but I don't know what stopped me. I think because I feel our car is out dated. I just got new tires for my stock rims, so getting rims is out of the question. Also I kind of don't want to lower it now cause of camber and tirewear. I'm just going to enjoy this car for a couple more years and get a new car. I probabaly can't afford a MB again (who knows), but probabably look into getting a 350Z Turbo, M3 again, RX-8 or G35 coupe. Something in the 30-65K range is all I can afford at the moment.

Don't worry about the cops in Dallas about tint, they never question tint laws unless you drive a honda or something with a loud exaust, I highly recomend Earmark for tint, the shop that does park place's stuff is not that good I would not have them tint my car.

What about passing inspection - are they required to check the tint level and fail inspection if too dark?
I did hear from a guy who was pulled over and they actually tore a large scratch through the tint from the driver side window before pulling away, on top of fining him. Was he in a Merc? Well, no. In fact, he was probably an idiot. Still, it makes you think twice.
Do you have pretty good history in Dallas of no problems with 20% tint?

just a hint....
just a hint......on overcast days with many clouds, tints look much much darker than they do on sunny days, so don't be surprised if they suddenly look a lot lighter/darker
for instance, on a sunny day my 20%'s look decent, a little dark but you can still see inside...on overcast days they look pitch black (also pitch black when it's getting late)

Titanium - what brand is it? I got the Quantum tint and I'm happy with it, only it doesn't conceal the interior as much as I had wanted. I shied away from the silver mirror reflective because I thought it might look cheap, even though it might actually look incredible cool.
Looking for brands and exact tint levels??
The Quantum tint I got was 35% all the way around, and with the stock tint this combines to make it < 30% according to the install guy.
Attached are the photos of my recent tint job. I want to go darker. The tinter said it's easy and no problem to add another layer to make it darker (cooler looks, cooler temps inside!).

Tinted E55s
I want to tint my windows, but thought I had heard that the tight window clearances and the rear shade on a W210 scratch the tint. In fact, I noticed this on a used car I test-drove before buying new.
Have any of you with tint had this problem?
What should I look for / ask for in a tint shop to avoid the problem?
Thanks.

All tint even the finest film will scratch. To look good Tint should be replaced every couple of years. I had tint on my 98 E430 and purchased the anytime replacement warranty for $25 or $30. Replacement anytime any reason free of charge. Recommend a www.formulaone.com dealer. Good Luck!

I have had tint on my E55 for over 2 years and had no problems. No scratches from the rear shade or anything else. The interior is much, much cooler in the summertime also. The car looks beautiful.

The window film (tint) is made by a company called Johnson and the product is called Silhouette.
