Intermittent vibration and clunking noise in front
I have a 1999 E55 AMG and especially when it's cold I hear a rhythmic clunking noise when I'm making a tight turn. I thought it was a left front wheel bearing but the dealer checked it out and said the wheelbearings were ok.
I've since heard it when taking a tight left-hand turn on a roundabout.
Twice I've had a vibration that I felt in the steering wheel that seemed to be coming from the left front wheel. It felt like a bulge on the tire, a thrown wheel weight or a flat tire. Once I stopped and checked the tire and when I started off again it went away. Another time I just slowed down a bit and kept driving and it went away.
Has anyone had a similar problem? What it something worn in the steering rack?
