For the X-pipe kit you will need:
- 2.5" dual inlet/outlet X-pipe
- Dual 45 degree mandrel bend pipes 2.25" inner diameter (roughly 2.35" outer diameter).
I would do the 2nd cats at the same time in order to save on labor at the exhaust shop. The high flow 300-cell metal core cats are $180 shipped for the pair. Parts should run you no more than 275-300 shipped at most. Doing both at the same time will significantly improve the performance of your vehicle and will properly prepare your exhaust system for the headers, which will be the last step.
Hope that helps,

This isn't necessarily a good x pipe design, but it makes it easy to see what it does. The x pipe allows gas from pipe A upstream to go into pipe A or pipe B downstream. It is sort of like a junction that briefly turns the separate exhaust paths into one exhaust path.
