Welcome, looks clean. And how exactly do you plan on improving mpg? Please don't tell us the tornado.

Not sure why...

..but for some reason I am getting very good mileage. In my 05 E55, I would barely get 400 kilometres / tank before the fuel light would go on. With my 02 I now get 475 to 500 (if some hwy km's are included) kilometres / tank and I am not changing my driving habits. For a high performance V8, the mileage is pretty good. BTW, my car has 57,000 km's (30,000 miles?) on it. Welcome aboard.

Cheers!

Shaun

Welcome!

I see the car is still wearing the original Michelin Sport tires? Or it may have already been replaced but those tires have been discontinued for sometime now. In any case nice ride!

The supercharger just kills the mileage on the W211 E55. It takes something like 80 hp just to drive the charger. And then when it's running, you're burning fuel like crazy. The V8 itself, though, performs admirably for such a large and powerful car.

2002 E55 W210 stock
mileage

mileage is good for me, get almost 600K per tank on a blend of driving. as long as its driven politely with momentary lapses it's actually pretty good. on a basic country ride I'll get 10-11L/100k. When I took out an 07 E63 it averaged 14.5, and I didn't find a big feel boost in the seat back. it was nice, but felt like the engine had to use its extra 100 horses to move more car

haha. im back and staying for awhile.

what i was trying to ask was, is there a K&N filter / exhaust setup that would be able to get me more MPG and HP at the Same time?

is there such a think as a cold air setup for the E55?

My last car was a VW GTI 1.8T, so you can understand how everything is new to me.

Im detailing the car this weekend and will post better pics and provided some info.

Yes, it comes from the factory equipped with one.

The intake is pretty efficient. The only real change is to swap the stock filters for foam or K&N. The two snorkels already make it cold air, and the filter surface is large (no need for cone filters).

+1

Keep it stock and like Saintz stated foam or K&N. If you go K&N just make sure to wipe them down really good. I usually let mine sit in the sun for a few hours to make sure it's completely dry before I install. (cleaning/install) Our MAF's are sensitive.

You actually will need to buy 2 K&N Air Filters, as you have two airboxes. They generally run about $80 each and can be found at most parts stores. You will likely want to take them out of the box, unwrap them, and let them air out for a good 8-24 hours and/or dob up some of the oil with paper towels. Otherwise, you risk your MAF going out due to oil from the filter (MAF's on these cars are very sensitive).

Xpipe you can buy just about anywhere as well, including ebay. Most muffler places should install it.

The headlights are tricky because you have HID's in your car and these aftermarket headlights aren't equipped with an HID setup, so they are not plug-n-play. In order to use these you either have to convert them to HID (quite the process and without using the lens from another HID kit you may get a crappy light beam) or switch to halogen lamps. If you're still interested, we can direct you to threads about it (try doing an advanced search in the W210 AMG forum using the term "Depo" as they are the brand that produces most of them and are referred as such on the forum.

Hope I could help. Good luck.

AutoAnything.com had good prices on the K&N. You'll need two of them.
