Looking to join the club and buy a E55, been a longtime Mercedes owner

I have been searching for a 2000 -2001 or 2005-2006 E55. I have been reading through threads and still have not made up my mind. I currently own a 1997 E320 with 210K on the clock. I have owned it since 2002 when it had 48K. This car has been a real eye opener on how long a well built, well maintained car can last. It has 210K on the clock and it looks and runs incrediable. I have serviced the car properly and I leaned along time ago to take care of my things, but regardless the car has been amazing.

I have been on the search for a w210 (sentimental favorite) or a w211 (a supercharged beast). I think for me, I am just looking for the right car that has been maintained well. I have been ordering Carfax's on the cars I have been considering, these reports look helpful with the information they provide, but how accurate are they really - does anyone have information on the value of these reports?

Also any additional thoughts or information on why a w210 over a w211 would be greatly appreciated.

I had a 2001 E55 and thought it was GREAT. Super reliable, built well, and the engine/transmission were both VERY solid. My only complaint during the 2 yrs was that although it's very comfortable, the chassis is not as stiff as the newer bodies and at times it felt a bit bouncy. I was very happy w/ the 5 speed tested/proven transmission and do not think the 7 speed in newer cars are better. Good luck...they're both GREAT cars.

I am doing the exact same research. I am leaning towards the 2001-2002 model. My research shows that the 2005 is double in money and the difference is on the stiffer suspension and supecharger. Let me know your thoughts.

IMHO, FWIW, the W210s feel more like traditional Mercedes and less like many other high end cars today. And I like that.

If you want to put 200k miles on the car, you want a W210. If you want to go crazy fast, you want a W211. It sounds like the OP wants a W210. It will cost probably a quarter what an '05-'06 will cost you in purchase and maintenance over the next 100k miles.

I agree, I have always thought the interior and front end of these cars are classic Mercedes Benz styling, a most beautiful blend of traditional and modern Benz. IMHO, the most beautiful sedan front end design Mercedes ever built.

Depending on the car, I have a budget upto the high end of the range for an excellent low mileage car.

How was that for not completely answering the question.

Seriously, I can fortunately afford to pay for the right low mileage car in excellent condition.

I'm typing this on my iPad so forgive me for being brief. I have a 2006 e55 for sale. If you would like to check it out, I have an ad in the Mercedes Vehicles classified section here on the board. I have some room to sell at a great price. The car has many upgrades and is still under extended warranty until November 2011. Feel free to contact me. Thanks

i know it's tough to work iPad, but if you want to sell/market, you should paste the link as it may be difficult to find your car, esp w/ the year, color, price, zip code, etc...just trying to help.

Hey tsquare.

Did you happen to look at the 2001 silver/black with 62K in your area? It was on CL last week, now the listing has expired. The ad was pretty good.. "e-mail me if you're serious and I might get back to you". So, I shot him an e-mail complimenting his beauty and saying that everything about the car seemed to be right in line, except for the $19.5K firm price. I told him that I would be willing to make the drive down to Carlsbad to check her out if he was willing to bend on his price. No response!!

I apologize to the seller if I offended you. I am serious about getting the E55. Just not at that price. The Car Factory has one with half the miles for less.

W210 is totally the way to go!!! I love mine and constantly get compliments. And it's got plenty of power... more than enough to slide it through a front yard at 80mph. Don't drink and drive! For more power in the W211 range you can always go KLEEMANN. Classic car with tons of room in the back seat.

I did not see the ad. $19.5 is to high for a 60K mile car in todats market place.

I concur the price was way too high. Kinda why I told the seller that if he was serious about selling, I was serious about buying. I received no response.

While I agree that $19k is high and there are other cars that many of us may like more for the same money, remember that a car is "worth" what a buyer is willing to pay for it. I realize that a car is not as personalized/unique as a house, but for many the emotional ties are still there. Therefore, I think we should cut the seller a little slack. When dealing with private parties, I always ask - "do you NEED to sell the car" or are you just "interested in selling it?" There's a wide bid-ask on used cars, and everybody would prefer what's most favorable to their situation.

Perhaps the seller was just "interested" in selling his car. Maybe he was just fishing to stir some interest. Could be a situation of his emotions not letting him part with his beautiful car.

What ever the case may be, there was an ad on Craigslist. The vehicle was local to my area. The car was silver/black which is what I desire. There was no phone number to reply, only e-mail. I responded and made many compliments and listed my wants. The only negative conotation was to his asking price. No reply.

Update - I purchased a 2002 E55, with low miles, Black with Charcoal Interior.

I have had the car for just over a week. I cannot express in words how much I enjoy driving this car - the sound of the motor under WOT is pure adult entertainment - does't get any better in my book

When I have time I will post pictures, specs and the story behind my Chase for a W210 E55 - some pretty interesting twists and turns (pardon the pun) along the way.

One thing for sure, this forum has been an invaluable resource in my search for the correct car - thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge on this forum.

glad you went with an 02! They're seriously great cars. I was so thrilled to hit WOT on the way home when I picked mine up. Stay safe and enjoy!
