Wanna be an AMG owner needs advice...

I am interested on a 2001 E55 (VIN WDBJF74J91B286594) on ebay rigth now (item 270685443755), located in a Dealership in Orange County, CA.
I can't make the Russion VIN decoder work, and I'm afraid I won't have time to get a PPi done, as I was out of town for a while and only now saw the add.
Anychance of one of you living nearby take a look at the car for me? Any chance of one of you knowing the history on this car? If so, please help. I've been searching for a C43 (wish me good luck...), or an E55 and this one seems decent at first glance. Thanks a bunch folks.

You need someone to go there and test drive it for you at least. Some cars may look decent in pictures, but are complete wrecks in person. These cars should be fairly solid, but at the very least, have the test driver look for vibrations, odd sounds, transmission slipping, etc. Good luck with your search! I was in your shoes a few months ago.

Thanks for your post. You're rigth. I'm. Hoping some AMG enthusiast from LA will be kind enough to swing by this dealership and check it out for me. Another choice is to get a PPI done but still I would need a recomendation of a competent AMG mechanic. So, I depend on someone to help. Thanks again.

That looks very clean. Price is a little high, but not crazy.

Looks pretty clean. Gonna need some new front tires soon. And I suspect it has had some front end work. Also the rear trunk bottom edge at the bumper bothers me a little. It's had some sun judging by the purpling of C pillar area on the driver's side. Driver's seat cushion has been repaired an it looks good.

I can check it out for you if you really want. The dealership is a small lot by the Orange Circle. I am in the area this Wed. I am not a fan of the chrome rims and I noticed the dash is missing pixels.

Although I am looking for a silver/black E55, I have not even given this one the time. My barometer indicates a non-deal for me, especially with the $13K price tag. However, I will gladly give her the once over if needed.

A little late, but I can swing by. If it's the one advertised at Mikes Place in Orange, CA. I've already seen it. Cupholder us missing, dead pixels(a lot), and a dent on the door that was fixed(attempted) but still very visible. On a cold start, it puffed a but if smoke, then cleaned up. Also, it had a bit of a rough idle. Maybe new mounts needed. It does have a new windshield. And the trunk gaps are off a bit(normal). All in all, not a bad car, but priced high. Oh, and interior was well used. Hope this helps.
If it's a different car..oops.

Hey rustbucket

'tis the one at Mike's Place. I dropped by before they had opened and looked over the car. I recognized it as I pulled up. It looked pretty good from 10 feet away. Then I saw the dent on the door. Looked inside at the worn seats. Noticed that the windshield had been replaced. Poked around underneath and split.

How did she drive?

I didn't want it enough to even drive it, I'm in search of a clean "lifer" car. Besides the lot owner was hesitant to allow lookey-loos out for a test drive, because it's so close to 100M that if anyone wanted to finance the car, it's sometime difficult to do over 100K.
PS- Swim..I think we're looking at the same cars, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a 2000 silver on black. I think I read you were in the hunt for one. If any one wants info on E55's from Ventura to San Diego, I've probably seen them. Any help I can be is my pleasure, this forum has helped me so much, just giving back. Cheers!

I think that Rustbucket is close to sealing the deal with Charlie in SD. The car seems like a gem. I had 2 hangups with the car.

The SL rims bothered me. I am looking to be as close to original as possible.
I am looking for the Nav dash as I plan on dropping my Alpine in.

I asked Charlie if he would consider lowering the asking price as I was not interested in the rims. Being the second owner since 2004, he wasn't really making those allowances. So my search continues.

Has anyone looked at the black 2000 E55 with 85K in San Diego. It is listed in the Autotrader?

I have not contacted him. He started at $17K Dropped to $16.5K for months. Lowered to $15K a few weeks ago. Lowered recently to 13.5K to compete with Charlie. Definately piqued my interest at this price.

Swim- you got me. Picking up Charlies E55 on Saturday. God willing. I have a set of 19 inch monoblocks, yes I said 19 original amg, took me a long time to find them. And a set of H&R's I'll eventually throw on. I hate the Nav, so was a bonus to me. Funny one man treasure...blah blah, you know. I think we are all pretty much neighbors, we should do a Cars & Coffee run sometime.
ALSO- regarding the black e55 in San Diego, I saw that one as well. Pretty clean car, the plastic cowling in front of the windshield of sun damaged and cracking up a bit. It's lowered, interior is almost excellent, limo tint(quality job), after market head unit, head lights are a hazing and yellowing a bit. I drove this car, it seems to me it needed new shocks, bounced a bit. And turn in was lazy, maybe bushings needed. Also, it's black, and you can see several dings along the both sides, very small, probably wouldn't catch them on a silver or white car, but in black, once you see them, you can't NOT see them. Easy paintless fix. I don't want to discourage anyone from a potential buy/sell. These are me 2 cents, and I'm am by no means an expert, even though I might say so after a few beers. LOL. I've driven a lot of W210's E55, and have owned 3 E320's. I think I finally found my unicorn, it's been a long tome coming.

Thank you. And I'll keep my eyes peeled for a car you spec'd. I'm on Craigslist/eBay/autotrader/riverside auction house sites daily. Happy hunting.

Thanks for the info on the other E55 in San Diego.

FYI-The plastic cowling in front of the windshield is a cheap and easy fix, If I remember it's a $20.00 part.

Good luck on your search

Dang. Charles' E55 sold. Cash talks. I'm feeling the lowest of lows. It was immaculate, and he's quite the gentleman. I was so close.

@ tsquare - Where is this a $20 part? Dealership says $300 or something to that effect. I know...dealership...blah blah. I need to check with my indie and see what he says. If you have a link to somewhere online I'd appreciate. The rubber on mine is dried/cracked and mostly missing now. Thanks
