New mileage best
I have a new job and the 55 is now a commute vehicle. 75 Miles - each way - of which 73 are freeway. The drive is sea-level to sea-level with a few minor hills (none over 300-400'). The last few weeks I've been trying to see how many MPG I can squeak out. My current record is 27.9 with an average speed of 59 MPH.
When I divide the range by the gallons remaining in "efficient" cruise mode it calcs's out to just over 32. I will admit to running tire pressure just under the max limit of the tire.
Yeah, I know, I'm gettin' old.

Hey John, I'm old too...
Heading to the Interior in British Columbia, the highway has a lot more elevation than the one you are on, but I have been getting 9.2 l / 100km's. I think this works out to be 33 miles / gallon. I remember driving the same with my 1992 500E and using over half a tank to get there. The 500 E also has a 90 litre tank. Round trip was over 700 km's and the low fuel light wasn't on the E55. I also get over 500 km's in trhe city which I think works out to 23 miles / gallon. I have put new tires on the car and aligned the wheels. The car was way out. Looking forward to see what I can do. I am at sea level when I drive in the city (Vancouver) but these trips to the Interior reach over 4,400 feet. The cruise is set to 130 km's but I have a few 180 km blasts.
Cheers!

Here's a photo of my dashboard where 27.2 mpg was achieved. Not as good as you but still very impressive for such a fantastic automobile.

Best I ever got was 28.6 on the dash. I wish I had taken a picture.
Granted I "cheated" a little. I was coming back from South Lake Tahoe (7k elevation) to Sacramento (sealevel) and let gravity do all of the work.

From Tahoe, my best is 29.9 (it was 30.0 until half a block from my house). The downhill makes a big difference - as I recall from Tahoe to Hangtown (Placerville), the first 60 or so miles of that trip, my MPG was over 42.

After 10 years of 3 miles each way - it's BIG change. The misses wants to switch cars with me but the 55 is the only reason the drive is bearable. There are four turns each direction which are actually enjoyable but the rest ... blah. Too bad there isn't an audio version of MBWorld for those locked inside our German chrysalises for 2+ hours a day.

I got 24.8mpg today going from Lincoln, CA to Concord, CA (edit: about 105 miles going on 65, 80, 5, 12, 160 and 4). That included sitting in traffic on I5 and a few 90mph blasts.
edit 2: I do attribute a lot of it to the cluster**** of cars on 12 that weren't worth passing (too many big rigs). Normally I go around anyone that leaves a decent size gap. I still averaged 58mph on the trip.

For a car that size.....25mpg plus or minus is pretty good. I have no complaints about that...with a few 90mph blast every now and then....love these cars

I drove from AL to MD the first week in July. The first fill-up leaving town netted me a personal best of 27.5 @ 75mph w/ cruise control on - this with 119K - amazing! I've looked at buying a newer, smaller more fuel efficient 20K car. But the realities are my car is paid for, and has been for the most part VERY reliable over the 100K+ miles I've driven it. Even at $3.75/gallon, I can drive my '55 another 150K...which is just fine with me! Just needs motor mounts and new front brakes and he's good for quite awhile.

24.9mpg today.
I was really hoping to hit 25mpg but I got stuck in traffic shortly after taking this pic and it dropped. I also turned 100,000 miles this morning.

Mileage follow up...
Hey guys and gals. Said I would follow up with my reply to the OP. I switch tires from the Khumo's all season to Goodyear Summer tires. I did the same business trip I posted above and my mileage was not as good. The sticky summer tires must create some type of resistance to have the mileage go from 9.1 km's / litre to 10.1 km's / litre. Drove the exact same too. So I guess a 4 - 5 mpg difference? Puts me in line with most of the replies on this thread..
Cheers!

Hey guys, just remember that if you have done a ECU tune your MPG or Liter/100 Km will show a much lower number then in reality I did i longer trip with my car this summer and i got it down to 0,59 Liter/10KM, thats 39,87 MPG Not sooo credible right
Just for those who didn't know this
