2008 E63 AMG
For what it's worth, I just had my fronts replaced (rotor and pads) for $730 from my indie mechanic back in AL. I just moved back to S. CA so I'll prepare to pay more for work, but luckily they caught my valve cover gasket leak and replaced it also. I should be good to go for awhile...hopefully!

Dealership prices are off the chart in the DC Metro Area. Here are the retail prices off my parts invoice in Sep 2010. Labor not included - It was a DIY job.

left rotor $328.03
right rotor $328.03
front pads - $247
front sensor - $10.81
front sensor - $10.81
Total $924.68

FWIW, as there are no after market rotors for the fronts. AutohausAz has the best price at $232 each. You may be able to use a MBCA club card for a 15-25% discount at some dealers.

The factory pads generate plenty of dust. I'd switch to a different pad the next time around. I got 93k out of my first set of pads and rotors.

To do a complete brake job on this model is probably the easiest on any car I've ever owned.

Just my $0.02.

Cheers !

Front Brake Job on C-280

I have been quoted $825 to replace front brake discs, pads and fluid by a dealer. I think it is too much. I am thinking about buying new brake discs and pads from dealer and have some one else install it. Would it be a better deal?

Hey JigV,

Not sure why you're asking about a brake job on the C280. This is the W210 E55 forum.

You should be able to do a brake job for about $400 for your car.

Or, you might post in the correct forum. There should be a lot more message traffic on that one.

Good luck !!

2001 E55 AMG front brake rotors.

Man, I got a price for front brake rotors of $1,014 each from Pep Boys. All the other part stores like Autozone don't even list them. Can you turn the front rotors?

I'll just order them from Autohaus.....forget pepboys and forget about turning them...would be cheaper to just mail order.

MB does not recommend turning rotors, some shops will turn rotors but that is a bad idea. Cutting rotors will lead to warping and overheating.
