2001 E55 price?
Hi All -
Been a while since I posted in the W210 E55 forum. I have a 2010 E63 AMG and love it. I have previously owned a 2000 E55 and also a 2005 E55. I do not want to put crazy miles on the 2010 E63 and really do miss my W210 E55. It was a solid car and it was bulletproof in my 3 years of ownership.
That being the case, I am looking for a nice 2000-2002 E55. I found one with 50K miles on it and every option. What would you pay for this car? These cars seem to have gone up in price recently as they become more rare. I traded my 2000 E55 with 70K miles on it in 2007 for $17K. They are going for 12-15K even today with low mileage. I should have just kept the car in retrospect.
Anyway, what would you pay? They are asking $17K for it.

$17K is really too high even 50k miles. In this stage, the mileage doesn't mean anything. I think the fair price is $14k to $15k. I paid mine $11,500 and it had 84k miles. I use it as daily drive and not to put crazy miles in my W211 and still want to have a classic power full car, voila ! W210 E55 is the one. I own it since April so 8 months from now, only brake change, oil change, air filter change. The car runs very good, more power than i expected. I don't know about your area but for a good condition low miles I have no problem to pay $14k to $15k but that's it.

210 55's are nice,
But don't kid yourself, miles do matter, and prices aren't going up. As 211's begin to get realistic, it puts more downward pressure on 210's. Also, the w210 is not exactly the nadir of mb build quality, so you have to try to choose the best one you can (rust, electronics). Thing is,we love them, but to non amg folks, it's just an e320 with wheels. And the newest one you can now buy is 10 model years old. Cool car, just really limited appeal. Good luck on the hunt.

As far as build quality, rust is an issue for some agreed. But other than that the w210 e55 is a rock solid car. I owned it for 3+ years and abused it and it gave me no issues. Mine didn't even rust. The W211 had many more issues, all electronic. the 210 is the most solid Benz ive owned. The new 212 I have also appears to be very solid so far. Let's see if merc got back to quality for real....

Not sure if this is the same one (according to your description of the color combo) to the one I talked to the sales person a couple months ago, according to him the front and rear bumper have been repainted (never seen in person though). I thought the asking price was way too high.

I did drop $700 on maintenance stuff for it though ($400 in parts from autohauz, $300 in labor). I was aware of the majority of the work that needed to be done before purchasing. A friend of mine works at an indy so I got a serious deal on labor (his boss lets him do side jobs on my car). Normal shop price for what I had done would have been right around $3,000.
The car also had the stock wheels on it and came with the Brabus wheels in my sig (tires on them were no good).

I don't think they will bit at $15K. But I wont pay more than that. I think $15K is a fair price.

Yes, must be the same car! He did tell me the bumpers were repainted but it was due to wear and tear. That is normal for used cars to paint the bumpers. No biggy. I am in Boston and the car is in CO so it is far awar. Checked car fax, it is clean. Had a friend of mine who works at MetLife run the VIN through their expensaive database of accidents. It usually finds items even not on the car fax. Car fax had nothing. The MetLife report returned broken glass front windshield claim. So I am pretty sure it is a clean car with no accidents.

For another reference, back in July of this year, I paid $13500 for my 2001 with around 79k miles. That was from original owner, no wrecks, meticulously kept, very few flaws. It including all service paperwork as well.

How about this one ? close to you and decent mileage and well equipped. At least you can see the actual car and test drive it. $12950 i think still can negociate down to $12.5k. You might need to change belts and spend some money to do maintenance but should be less than $500 you can get a clean car. Plus, the tires looks good.

My search is over though! After 2 days of negotiating, I got them to accept $15K flat with NO dealer fee. The car is mint (asked for detailed pics). It only has 46K miles on it. Grey outside and red/black inside. Should have the car in 1-2 weeks. She is a beauty. With that mileage and the condition the car is in, it is ceratinly worth $15K. I dont mind paying $2-$3K extra for lower mileage and a car in mint condition. It is worth it for me. I am a car nut and the slightest imperfections bother me on my cars. Even so, $15K is a fair deal on this beauty. Can't wait to get it and do a photoshoot with the 2010 E63 and the 2001 E55. The car has all service records also with it.

I'm not a big fan of grey, but I know many are. I do like that red/black interior though. Did you notice the power mirror switch is broken? I hope you asked if it still works. If not, to fix that, you have to replace the entire switch assembly (which includes all 4 window switches) and isn't cheap, even for a used one. I see major pixel issues in the cluster, which I'm sure you saw. You'll probably have to send the cluster off for repair if you want it done right. Otherwise looks pretty good.
I'm sure you know there will be more flaws found when you get it. One possible one I saw is near the rear plate area near the lock. Did you get a closeup of that area?
I hope you are able to get over your issues with cars having "the slightest imperfection" because that's just part of having a 10y old car.

Thank you for looking! I did notice the instrument cluster pixels and they say it works fine (not sure what happened in the picture).
I did NOT notice the mirror switch! I will ask them about it now. Thank you!

Congrat ! very unique color combination. Love inside color. Its a really low miles E55 and surely you will enjoy it. Of course is not a brand new car but its still a very nice car. When I bought mine, i was also very **** about the condition. I drove to San Diego which 230 miles round trip just to pick it up. When I saw it, no question ask and enjoy it every moment. I don't race it at all. In the past 8 months already clay bar 3 times, wash 5 times and always garaged. ( In California specially my area, car don't get dirty fast) Here again, welcome to W210 AMG !

also - the slightest imperfection was perhaps an overstatement. I understand all cars have wear and tear but it much less so with a 46K mileage car than with say a 100K mileage car
They are checking the mirror switch as we speak. Is it possible to just replace the button (I am confident the motors still work)?

I'd also call them complete liars if they say that instrument panel works fine. Maybe the center display does, but the side Temp and Clock/Gear Indicator are HOSED! That's not just a bad photo. If you want to see those working, you will have to pull the cluster and fix it or send it to be fixed.
It is no surprise, virtually every W210 has those displays go out at some point. Many were replaced under warranty years ago (like mine), yet still have issues (like mine). When I got my car, the gear indicator was mostly blank, but the clock was half lite up. Most of the time, after driving for 30 minutes, most of the clock pixels came in (most, not all). I attempted repair by following internet guides. I was able to get all my clock pixels working, and most of my gear indicator, but I still have a few pixels out there. At least now I can clearly see what gear my trans is in if/when I shift manually, but it still bothers me when I look at it.
I'd make a big deal out of that if I were you.

Unless if they fixed it (I doubt it), when I talked with them a few months ago , it wasn't fixed yet. Anyway congrat on your new ride!
