W210 Secondary Cat Removal (CA)

Researched the removal of secondary cats and it looks like it will result in a pretty decent/cheap gain for our cars.

Has anyone in CA done this and if so did you pass smog?

Thanks,

Jordan

You may not pass the visual with the secondary cats removed.

I've had the car smogged twice and don't recall anyone ever looking underneath it. Perhaps they're more stringent in Northern California. Thanks for the warning though.

You could always clear the inside of the cat and it will pass visual...

I was looking at some high flow cats on ebay and there are some so call "catalytic converters" that look like one but are actually straight pipe "hollow" with no honeycomb web in the middle. I would put them on in place of the regular cats and that should pass visual test.

In my case I think he saw the front ones and that may have been good enough for him.

Like I said, they sell the cats that are hollow in the middle but look like a cat. Put that in and you will pass visual. Google it and look for them. I found them once on Ebay but didn't bother to get them as CT doesnot have strict smog inspection.

in CA you need the carb approved CAT with the correct serial for visual.
