Question Remote key issue -- ideas?

Problem:
The key will unlock the doors but will not start the car. The key will not turn in the ignition. Battery replaced, no better.

The other remote works fine.

Any ideas to resolve other than spending $150 on a new transmitter?

Also, I see remote transmitters on E-bay that say they simply need to be reprogrammed.

Can I reprogram myself or does the dealer have to do it?

Thanks for any help!

The dealership is ordering me a new one. For some reason I didn't think the key fob would be covered under warranty.

My batteries died in the remote six months after I bought the car and the service department wanted to charge me for them. After having shelled out $78k for the car months earlier it irked the heck out of me that they would do that. Call me a cheapskate, but I complained to my salesman who took care of it for me. $8 or $16 for them, can't remember which.

That led me to believe the remote was not covered at all. My mistake, they ordered it and said it would be in today. Come to think of it, they never called...

Those keys are expensive and as you said, they are covered under warranty. I think even the batteries are.

Also here is a tip for you new E and MB owners. Make sure to complain about the alignment and get it aligned during the free alignment period, I think its the first year or 12,000 miles. Anyway, in order for an MB to be aligned they need alignment bolts installed (only on the first time) if you don't get it done for free, they'll charge you for the labor and time to intall them later.

Alignment is not covered after the free period.
