99 E55 cat replace and resonator delete question

So I hit up a local shop to see what they would charge to take out the resonator and straight pipe it as well as swapping out the second cat with my Magnaflow. Guy says 1. probably won;t pass smog. 2. woll hurt performance because the ECU will adjust to the different flow thereby hurting the performance.

My question is, will I pass smog and do I need to do something to the ECU after getting the work done?

Smog depends on where you live. In CA you won't pass without the secondary cats. Since they're even considering doing that for you I'm guessing you're in another state. They could get ****ed if they get caught doing that to a car.

Strigoi is right....it all depends where you live....in Cali - Don't delete the 2nd cat!!
The ECU will adjust itself after you delete the resonator and 2nd cat. No ECU tuning required. You just have to do a quick ECU reset after you do all the delete and the x-pipe.

What about just a resonator delete and x pipe? Do I need to reset the ecu?

Cool thanks! Guy said he would do it for $125. He suggested I delete the resonators, straight pipe then x pipe before the second cat.

I would get two mandrel bends 2.5in pipe on ebay and mate it with the x-pipe. It flows better with mandrel bends. You find them on ebay for $20 or so.

It WILL NOT pass smog if you delete or do anything to the 2nd cats.
