$1,851 of work done by dealer - here's what it was
2001 E55 AMG with 131,687 miles on it. Bought last year at private dealer up in Orange County. Had some maintenance records but definitely not all.
Interested to hear if you think these costs were reasonable and how often these items should be redone / replaced.
"A" Service - $233
New Tires Installed - $112 (I had them drop shipped there)
Alignment - $139
Transmission Service - $261
Tail Lamp Unit Replaced - $206
Air Filter - $220
Spark Plugs - $362
Fuel Filter - $219

2001 E55 AMG
Btw I've read on here and another place that the transmissions should be completely flushed with "the machine" and that the typical transmission service done by the dealer is insufficient. I brought that up to one of the MB techs (who says he reads this board!) and he was adament that both their dealer and MB recommend the regular transmission service...and nothing more. They even tested how much fluid is left behind if you do it there way vs. the complete flush with the machine and he said the amount was negligible. FWIW he said the people who are claiming otherwise do not have enough [correct] information; that they are simply not knowledgable enough about the topic (as compared to the dealers and MB themselves). This makes sense to me but am open to both sides of the argument so long as someone can back up their claim that their opinion is correct. Thanks.

He is wrong.
The fluid capacity of the E55 trans is 8-9 liter. Pan drop gets about three.
You need to have either the "pump out and fill method" done or the trans cooler drain a few times along with the pan drop.
As far as your prices:
"A" Service - $233 (what is that?)
New Tires Installed - $112 (I had them drop shipped there) fair price
Alignment - $139 (high, should be closer to $85-$100)
Transmission Service - $261 (good price for an insufficient service, my dealer wanted $500, ON SPECIAL regularly. Jerks)
Tail Lamp Unit Replaced - $206 (Don't know)
Air Filter - $220 (High. $30 in parts and 20 minutes work)
Spark Plugs - $362 (seems reasonable)
Fuel Filter - $219 (High. $40 in parts, 20 minutes work)

I'll leave the pricing alone as I think it is fair for dealer work. Except the airfilter seems high.
That is a good deal for the alignment, unless Schweinhund is talking about a tire store alignment.
You really dont want a complete flush on a high miles transmission. Regular filter changes are recommended.

Which is why many dealers have alignment specialists. If you go to a tire store or similar place for one, they will toe and go it for sure. Where as these cars require bolts to adjust caster and camber.
