Performance mods for a E55 W210
Wile E. Coyote
Yes, ehausts are usually always restrictive. Esp with emission regulations which countries have, esp Australians. I mean, we even have carbon tax now. Paying tax for using electricity! Did I say that Australians get ripped off?? Grr
this is exhactly what i want
hahhahahaahhaahaI made in my car few mods. Kleemann headers, X pipe (magnaflow 20" lengt x 2.5" in the second cats place) we have no SMOG regulations here (no cats), resonator deleat with stright pipes, BMC filters. No more than this and the difference is soooo sweet
our cars need headers first of all!Fabio Daniel

) so i know what you mean!
Hoping to run into a W212 E63 for some comparison.
I personally can't justify spending $4400 for headers that give you 15 HP especially on a car that is at best worth $12000. So that leaves us with chip tune $990, high flow primary cats from Random technology or similar $350 for maybe 10 hp , maybe some high flow air filters supposedly about 7 HP gain . Kleemann headers are a possibility at around $1500.but you loose the primary cat and this could lead to failing emission inspection. I have seen some stainless headers on eBay for $470. These might be worth the risk at this kind of money for maybe 10 - 15 hp . Also I found some under driven pulleys for 12 HP gain for $380
It seems there are very little options for us to improve substantially ( more than 45 - 50hp ) the standard package from the factory with out spending more than the car is worth.
Hopefully some one on this forum has been down this road already and can offer some advice based upon their findings.

Yes. You have to remember you are tuning a car that cost around $80k when it was new. Although the cars have depreciated, the parts haven't, nor will they ever--unless of course you find used parts. The same applies regarding the maintenance. So many people gawk at how "expensive" these parts are. Almost like they don't remember what these cars cost when they rolled out of the factory. Silly to even have to point it out, but Mercedes are most definitely not known for their ease of tuning. Just my $.02

In the last few years, I have read about most people modifying the exhaust side. I think that is where you will find the most cost effective solution to a (relatively slight) performance increase. There are several threads on exhaust mods.

I was fortunate enough to escape HM prison ( UK ) back in 1994 and while the taxes where high used cars are almost free. Seems like you inherited the high taxes but got the added bonus of high used car prices. ! God bless her.
I am going to try to find some one near me with a chassis dyno and get a baseline run totally stock, then add traditional bolt on mods over a period of several months. I'll log them as I go and post the results from time to time on the forum.
My E55 has been maintained meticulously and had all services and any parts replaced ( with OEM or OE manufacturer parts only ) at the very first signs of any wear, I have even gone to the trouble to keep all of the old parts I have replaced stored safely for some reason I have not yet figured out. At least when it comes time to sell the car, I can prove the repairs have been done. I really enjoy working on these cars my self and I trust my work much more so than the majority of mechanics.
Best of luck finding your E55. I am sure you will enjoy it.
