Thanks Zayed! I tried to call you back after missing your calls, apologies for that!

I'm going to test fit the brakes and wheels tomorrow. I will call you when I get to the garage!

Yes please!!!

I like that you didn't go with the gratuitous red like everyone else, mine included, has. Just one more thing to make it stand out from the crowd!

Subtlety has always been a big thing for me car wise, so black or a very dark grey was first choice in calliper colour. I skipped on grey because the new wheels have the titanium finish and grey callipers together with them would have been grey overkill.

The highlight and contrast is the white decals, which I think is just enough to lift them from being basically invisible.

Appreciate you keeping up with all the work Benzokirk!

The first set of downpipes Kleemann sent to me seemed to be made of paper-thin steel, which went on to crack a couple of times around some quite well hidden joins, that when new only the trained eye would spot beneath their shiny coating.

You'll see the last crack which developed before swapping them out, next to the repair welds of the previous cracks, in this photo:

After explaining the downpipes situation to Kleemann, they have sent a brand new set of pipes over to replace the cracked ones, so let's see how these new ones sit now they're fitted.

It's due to get cleaner because I took it in for all new roof lining yesterday, genuine alcantara matched to the stock colour being fitted. The stock material finally gave up this week, it's lasted two summers but this year its collapsed with the heat.

So after a speaking to a few car upholstery places in Dubai I've come to find the fitting/labour costs are more than reasonable, but Alcantara (genuine) is pricey as hell!

I found a company in Germany which has great prices (for genuine material) and ordered enough from them for the roof lining, but obviously until it arrives I'm having to deal with saggy stock lining Lol

Also, last night my driver-side rear window glass (and I'm assuming motor and/or regulator) collapsed. Not good in the almost 50 degree daily heat we're now having. I've had to duck-tape an IKEA bag to the opening for now but will drop the car in tomorrow for that to be fixed.

Always something standing in the way of progress bigger progress.

I'll take my 19" AMG IV's in for rubber tomorrow as well and have them fitted when the car is back from having the window sorted. I'm going for Nitto's all around. NT555 front and NT05 rear I think. Perhaps 555's all around, but definitely Nitto's.

Over the next week or so I need to get these last few upgrades fitted and complete any other repairs so I can focus on just enjoying he car for a while. There's still some engine bay parts to change too (tanks etc.), all of which need to be custom fabricated.

And, when I ran my weekly ECU/code check the other day I found the car had thrown a P1400 code. It read out as an electrical/voltage issue in the EGR system. When I checked the EGR valve and area I found the metal retaining clip for the yellow plug was missing and the plug had worked itself away from its seating, basically disconnected. I need to replace the metal clip to lock that back in place, and have no idea how the metal clip just "fell off"? Anyway, yet another small task.

I need to get a transmission service done as well because the shifts are becoming a little rough of late, I thought it was down to the LSD upgrade but I'm not convinced it's that anymore. The E55 just needs so fresh fluids and filters in that area.

The task of balancing the service and repair of a daily driver vehicle with passion project performance modifications is proving to be a handful sometimes it seems.

I'll make sure I get videos and photos posted of the progress this coming week.

Is there a kit for that? I need to order one and get that service done also, while also replacing gaskets/seals at the same time...

I know what you mean about the delicate balance, there never seems to be enough time in the week to get it all done, but I'm catching up, slowly...

Again, nice work, and I'm sure we're all looking forward to more progress videos!

Their is a servicing kit with exactly what you mentioned in it. Seals/gaskets/filters etc. - Are you looking to service the transmission yourself?

I appreciate the words in comfort by the way, it always good knowing you're not on your own in the struggle Lol

I think the Alcantara upgrade for the roof lining will be a nice touch too.

I did find one that ECS sells that I'll purchase this week:
https://mbworld.org/forums/amg-vendo...vice-kits.html

My Indie shop (Fluid MotorUnion), who did the pre-inspection and suggested that I do the transmission flush when I purchased my car a couple of years ago, seemed a little hesitant when I brought it up to them a couple of weeks ago. I've heard from others that you potentially open a pandoras' box when flushing transmissions, but I think the prevailing wisdom is to do the change out of filter(s), seals and fluid often. Not sure how often, though...

My thoughts were to buy it and take it to my Indie shop and have them install it.

No, you're not alone, we'll be here to cheer you on!

It seems German cars cannot take the heat here. A friend with a Beamer 330 had the same problem in his car, while my brother had to go through this issue with his VW GTI.

IMO; this is normal issue during to the age(14-15 years),

of course heat is one of important reason,,

but we don't know for sure, what's the Exact spec. of chemical clue that MB factory used for holding all kind of Upholstery..!!?!?!

Thanks for the link. I'm now trying to figure out why there are 4 types and whether they'll ship to UAE.

For an e55 this is the kit you would need https://mbworld.org/forums/amg-vendo...ml#post6411551

I have done the job myself a few years back and its not hard. If you do a full flush you will need a lot more fluid than just doing a drain, filter change and refill.

No problem... this is the actual link directly to their website:

http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Merced...mpaign=newpost

It appears that ESC offers two variations of two versions. One OEM and one ESC of kits with and without "torque converter drain plug and extra fluid", if that makes sense.

So, once you figure out if you what those items, you can then decide if you want the OEM version or the ESC version.

You're right Zayed. The car is 15 years old now, and even lasted two use summers of 50+ degrees at peak, it's definitely not what I would call a "weak point" in the cars. It's just general wear and tear which I'm going to not just repair but upgrade.

I know my car comes with the drain plug, so that makes my choice pretty simple. The only variable to check is whether your car has a drain plug and you're good to go with your order.

Indeed, I plan to assess that this weekend, and I'll probably let the Indie shop do the job

Haven't updated the thread in a while due to the typical sorts of delays we all face when modifying cars. Sometimes the things we think will be the most simple end up becoming unnecessarily complicated.

After some serious communication difficulties with the supplier, I now have the correct colour alcantara for my roof lining repair/upgrade. I chose a fabric colour as close as possible to stock so it doesn't become noticeable change unless you really know your W210's. I'll head to the garage tomorrow and find out more on the timeframes for fitting.

Also, the brake kit fitting has been continuously delayed as the 19" wheel fitting was delayed (domino effect). I finally got the 19's fitted today, and can now look at arranging a test fit of the brake kit. The delays in fitting the wheels was due to the lug bolt sizing. My advise to anyone wanting to fit later model OEM Mercedes wheels to an older model Mercedes car; GET THE RIGHT BOLTS. Stock W210's run a 12mm ball seat lug bolt with a shank of 12mm x 1.5mm x 61mm with a 17mm hex head. I needed a 14mm ball seat to match the seating of the wheels, but a thread/shank/head matched to stock, and it's not as simple as I thought it would be to find.

In case people need the measurements: R12 x M12 x 1.5 is stock. R14 x M12 x 1.5 x 26mm is what I needed. Always be sure to check bolt length, with the rule of thumb being a need for 17mm-20mm of thread protruding from the rear of the wheel to confirm secure fastening to the hub, and without hitting braking components etc. These rules apply to later model ball seat OEM wheels of an ET28 offset being fitted to a W210, I can't say whether these measurements will work for other marques (the bolt lengths at least).

I'll leave the update at that for now, and post again when I have checked with the relevant people about the fitting of the other bits.
