Oil Level Sensor
Can this part cause an external oil leak? My indy said it was casing an oil leak, but it looks like it is located up inside the lower oil pan.
How can it cause an external leak? Your knowledge and expertise is greatly appreciated.

YES ABSOLUTELY!!!
As a matter of fact it is a very common leak in this engine.
The level sensor does sit inside the oil pan on the passenger side of the car and it has an O-ring that is supposed to seal against the oil pan. That O-ring gets hard and brittle in time and it will cause a leak.
You can just change the O-ring,but because of the time involved to do this,I would change the whole sensor,which comes with the O-ring.
Some have only changed the O-ring and the leak came back.

Thanks a lot.
Now that I have the 12 Torx bolts removed from the lower oil pan,
what's the secret for removing it?
I can see a tab on the drivers side just below a tab on the upper pan, but I don't want to pry too hard.

The oil pan DOES NOT have a gasket,it has silicone. Be careful where you're prying to release the oil pan. You can try to slowly tap each corner with a rubber mallet. You will need silicone to put it back and wait for 24hrs for it to cure before putting oil back in and start it up.
Get silicone from the dealer,it's the best!
