It's alive!
I consider myself pretty knowledgable, from owning those cars, and the help of all from this wonderful forum. I write, hoping to maybe help others trouble shoot and assist with diagnostics in their own cars.
I recently got a misfire and CEL-codes-p300/p303/p305
As the car sits at 197,000 miles. I figured I'd throw some parts at it anyways.
After new plugs, wires, mass air, engine/tranny mounts, oxygen sensors, fuel filter, the misfire remained.
I checked fuel line pressure, checked injectors, tested coil packs, had someone check the cats. Nothing
So I gave up and dropped her off at the local MBZ dealer for service.
I was lucky enough to speak with the shop foreman, and another MBZ mechanic who luckily also had his own 2000 E55.
Long story short, they relearned the ring gear after finding large values in the blocks, and cleared the codes and relearning the ring gear, It runs better than it ever has. It holds gear longer when downshifting, and has very crisp throttle response. It's like a whole new car. Very happy.
The parts I replaced didn't hurt, but they also didn't help in clearing the codes. Hope this helps anyone else tracing a random misfire.

is it fixed by STAR or did shop mate it perfectly to transmission?
what kind of values were found inside the blocks?
did they clear codes after this
your car does it shift much better now, does it feel more quicker?
Might be placebo, but it genuinely feels quicker. Might be the faster shifts. Or less travel on the accelerator pedal, feels similar to when I installed SprintBooster to a friends BMW.

1. Disconnect the battery over night and turn on the headlights to keep an electrical draw on the components.
2. Next day turn off lights and re-connect battery.
3. Start it up and you will have ABS ESP light on
4.Turn the steering wheel right all the way to lock and left to lock to clear lights and re-calibrate the ESP/ABS system.
5.Enjoy the feeling of a Refreshed AMG
This all could have been fixed with a sport mode button from Mercedes though lol

a w202 doesn't have 2 batts
Whenever I do a modification/maintenance I always do a hard reset to ensure the best results. It's what the dealer does with STAR, resetting all of your ecus adaption values. I recently had a bad MAF sensor and the car would bog down and shutter under moderate throttle. I put a new MAF in and it drove better and smoother but the car had learned the poor performance points from having a bad MAF. I was upset thinking it didn't fix the issue, then i did the reset and it too was alive! The adaptive systems are amazing, but also cumbersome in terms of consistent performance.

Good to know. Maybe I fixed the problem with the first thing I did, but never reset the car. Interesting. Glad we are all out driving our cars.
