Fluid Leak

Hey Guys,

I'm inquiring about an odd leak on my '02 E55 (78k miles). I acquired the car a few months back and it was well cared for. Prior to purchasing the car had a PPI which checked out and it was looked over at my local dealership when i had the coolant flushed recently.

I noticed a few drips of bright green fluid on my driveway a week or two ago. The location is in the center of the car where the transmission hooks up to the engine. I took the car back to the dealership to have it inspected and they said it was definitely not coolant which it does not look to be. The tech said it looks like the dye that is used to check for leaks and it appears to be coming the the transmission area. Mostly only drips, but i noticed a decent amount on the floor when i left it parked for a few days. I park the car on an incline facing my garage. I believe it only happens when on an incline.

I'm thinking about taking it in for a further diagnosis. I wanted to know if an A/C freon leak would be a bright green color like this? Any insight would be very much appreciated!

Happy New Year,

-Rob

the color is wrong but it could be coming from the electrical connector on the transmission.

It appears to be green my friend. A connector can leak this color??

Thanks for the feedback.

thats way to much for the Transmission connector AND the color is totaly wrong.

i would say it is from the A/C System, did you remove the the lower engine cover to check for the A/C Compressor? When the compressor leaks it drips on the cover and from there to the middle of the car.

greetings, Fabian

Thanks for the feedback guys! I felt like it might be related to the A/C system. It has been a while since i used the A/C, but it worked fine prior to the cold days here in VA.

Is it possible to determine if it's the dye used to detect an A/C leak or the freon? They appear to be the same color. I believe the climate control unit in our car has the capability to display an error. Not sure about a shortage of freon though. Thanks again!

Cheers,

-Rob

The best or nothing
I had a similar leak. However mine was coming from the transmission.

I pulled out the transmission and replaced a leaking governor seal. Check it out:

ATF is red (or blue on late 7-speed and 9-speed gearboxes) but NOT green!

The car is in the shop today getting some work done. They sent me a pic of the area which I included. The guy said the dye looks to be coming for the evaporator area. My A/C has been working fine to this day. Would you guys concur with the shop?

Cheers,

-Rob

Yep, your evaporator die mate, the drain holes are just up the trans, thats why you got the leak detector in this area, mine got the same 2 yrs ago
