Greetings everyone, I had the privilege to buy a 2001 E55 AMG for a whopping $1,000 on craigslist earlier this week. Obviously she is not a pristine example, and it is pretty clear she has had a very rough life. Based on the rust bubbling on every door, and most prominently the hood I can assume it spent a fair amount of time getting salt from northern roads stuck everywhere and it has wreaked havoc. But for $1,000 I decided to take a gamble. I found a parts 1996 E320 car that has 4 good doors on it, and my question is will these doors fit and work on my 2001 E55? The previous owner said something about the vacuum system not working for the door locks, can anyone explain what this is and how it works? He said it was a $90 part... Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cheapest running and driving W210 E55??
Amazing! An AMG for 1k, I think it would be safe to say you did not expect a smooth idle at that price!! There is a flip side and it will most likely cost you a good penny to get everything sorted properly.
The big question is whether or not it has a clean title?? Best of luck w/ everything.
My main concern would be if it sustained any type of water/flood damage. Remove the front seats and check under the carpet and underlay for heavy moisture. The motor and tranny are worth far more than $1K so I would have purchased it just for those. All body panels such as fenders, quarters, hood, trunk lid, etc. from a 1996 W210 to 2002 W210 are interchangeable. 👍

Incorrect. As stated above the fenders are not the same on the AMG models. The AMG ones are wider to accommodate the wheels/tires. I've seen an E55 with one non-AMG rear fender and it's a noticeable difference. He also had rubbing on that side.

Is that the case with the E430 Sport as well with the AMG trim? Ive seen a E320 that a guy put on all the E55 trim and tail pipe a real poser.. Fooled me and I thought it was an E55.
Here is an E320 with 245s in front and 275's in back like an E55 have to scroll down

E55's came with factory rolled fenders in the front, other than that they are the same as fenders from the other models. I ran 245s in the front on my e320 4matic.

I believe the 210 AMG fenders are factory rolled or otherwise conformed to the 18" wide wheels.
Just a little update for you guys.. I purchased a 2002 E320 with 150,000 on the clock as a donor car (it ran and drove albeit it only has 1st gear while in drive) but the good news is it has 4 good doors, hood, trunk, quarter panels, etc. After reading a few of your replies I am so sad to hear that the front quarter panels are different, but i suppose i will survive. I paid $380 for the car and i figured it was worth that just for the doors. Even better news is that the vacuum system that runs the door locks and trunk release was working in the E320. So far I have swapped over the trunk lid, rear tail lights, all the trunk lining, and got the 320 pretty well stripped getting ready to move over the doors tomorrow. I am having some trouble getting the headlights/quarter panels off there is one screw that is totally impossible for me to get to that I will have to do some research on. Not a very good before/after pictures but this is my first day of moving over the parts. Also I plugged in my OBDII scanner and it came back with no codes!! Looks like all I will need is tires and im only $1380 into the car. Not too shabby. Anything you guys could share would be helpful. Thanks!

Yes it for sure had some water damage, but for such a cheap price I gambled. The previous owner never cleaned the car ever the whole 6 years he owned it, the guy was so lazy and was awful on maintenance. I found a jug of mobil 1 10W-30 in the trunk, so obviously he gave zero Fs. I did all the fluids, and brake job and shes doing well. Really cant complain for the price I paid. Drivetrain wise she is pretty solid, besides the rust all over the doors and hood and trunk lid it is in pretty good shape. Its pretty fun bringing something back from the brink of death. Cheers.
the hood and fenders are different for facelift models. E55s have rolled fenders on the front but other than that they are the same as any other facelift w210 fenders
