Service question

Hey Guys, '02 E55 with 70,000 miles, when does it need the spark plugs/transmission flush? Can someone guide me to the servicing schedule please. Car is a blast to drive, lOve it..

I'd do the transmission fluid ASAP if you don't know if it's been done. These cars came with "lifetime" transmissions in them which was BS and Mercedes later changed that.

Just pull a plug and see how it looks. You have to change 16 of them, so it's not super cheap.

Driving down the road the other day and suddenly felt a metal rubbing noise coming front passenger side. Had it towed to the mechanic and found out it needed the passenger side knuckle and the hub. The Mercedes dealership who last serviced the car, probably either forgot to put the grease in or the cap or something like that but it definitely froze the knuckle on the hub needing replacing all that.



Anyway, took that opportunity to catch up with rest of the servicing .
New passenger side knuckle/hub and bearings, Oil change, Cabin and air filters, Plugs, Brake fluid, Power steering fluid and differential fluid changed, both front new brake pads and rotors, Motor and transmission mounts, fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator and my God, what a difference all that has made. Car feels so much tighter and smoother now. I was going to have Mercedes flush the transmission fluid but would now save some $$$ and have my Indy do that for me too.
So, is there anything special about the transmission fluid change or can my Indy do it?
Gotta love this car...

Obsidian Black Anyway, got to looking at the service records and noticed transmission was serviced in 2011 at 35,000 miles, so how often does it need to be serviced?

About every 40,000 miles. If you follow that cycle you can have the connector to the TCU from the conductor plate that is inside the transmission replaced at the same time. That piece will leak fluid, which wicks up the cable and then causes erratic shifting and engagement problems.

Thanks for the connector reminder, i had forgotten about that. Is there a certain procedure that needs to be followed for this transmission service or is it simple drain and fill thing?

Nope, at an Indy and it still wasn't cheap but at least I know it was done unlike the previous stupid Mercedes dealership, who forgot to finish the bearing service.

You can drop the pan to drain it overnight and change the filter at the same time. Filling can be done several ways, but the easiest involves breaking off the seal on the transmission dipstick tube, filling, and then you put another cheap, disposable seal on the tube. Transmission dipstick will also be needed. Follow Kent Bergsma's guides and it's hard to go wrong. As long it isn't in catastrophic limp-home mode you don't need SDS to reset anything in the TCU.
