The suspension bits will need to be replaced if not already done. Most likely will need engine mounts, shocks and struts, spark plugs, plug wires, coil packs, valve cover gaskets, oil cooler/seals, and crankcase breather hoses. Even if you had to do everything, you are not talking about a ton of money. Afterwards, the car will drive great and you will love how efficient and flexible the engine is in the E55. Tranny may also need replacement soon but you can find low mileage used ones cheap.

I would buy a car with less millage and for more money. In the end you will pay less. However if this is a toy you can have fun with it until it has a expensive problem. Also it not just the money to fix it. It is also your time

It really depends on how the car has been maintained. If you can appraise what is good and bad and don't mind working on it to get it into the condition that you want it, then go for it. I have known fantastic E55s at that milage and I've seen some crap buckets that I wouldn't take for free.

Get a PPI done. If it checks out or you're ok with doing the work then buy the car. We can't tell you if it's a good car sight unseen. It might be a piece of **** that's not worth buying or an ok deal at that price.

Frankly - at 180K miles a E55 can still be running strong.
The key component here is the tranny - if the tranny has had proper service - and fresh tranny adapter plug - then a well maintained tranny can go out well past 250K. If the tranny has not had legitimate service/maintenance - then at/about 175K/180K is about the time the tranny can turn to toast.
The other thing to look/avoid is any cooling-system/tranny cross-contamination which can occur with failing coolant/tranny-fluid lines.
On the maintenance side - you have a rock solid V8 - pending any exceptional problems - of note front brake rotors for a E55 are about $400 - as compared to like $100 for a E320/E430.
