Shop Rates and Lowering
Just lowered my 02 E-55, looks and rides great. Put H& R springs. During the process the MB dealership called and said that I needed new front rotors and pads. I asked about turning the rotors and he says MB does not recommend that. He quoted 960 for new rotors and pads, to me I think that is quite excessive. Anyone have an idea if this is right. Also where do you find the best deals on parts?

If you search (and the search function operates properly) you will find that these parts are quite expensive.

cap3 - $960 for the fronts only? Gawd!!!!
Can you provide more details on the lowering / springs? Cost (parts + labor)? Did you replace dampers/struts? Difference in ride/handling (specifically).
TIA -

Cap3 - how do you like the ride of your lowered suspension? Would you be interested in selling your stock E55 springs? I've been looking for a set for my 2001 E430.
Thanks,
Antony

Guys,
I bought springs from Tire Rack for (I think) 360 and the dealership charged me approx 500 to install. I did not think that was too bad. Interestingly I think the ride is a touch softer than stock when you are just riding around but handling and body roll are noticely better. Also the car looks good, have to watch our for curbs!

lowering...
Like to see some pictures of the finished product. I am also considering lowering my E55. All I really want is a 1" drop - I have seen some springs that that are way too "slammed" for my tastes.
I am encouraged by your statement that the car still maintains a decent (smmoth) boulevard ride. But, if the springs are progressive, I would imagine that it corners a lot firmer (flatter) too ? True ?
If you can't affix pictures, howsabout measuring the distance between the top of your tires and the bottom of the wheel wells - that will tell me what I want to know.

Now that I have a few miles under my belt, I still think the ride is great. Not to stiff around town and the car really feels flat during cornering. I will try to take some pics this weekend. The H& R springs lowered the car around 1.3 inches. I still have about 1" in clearance so while it is aggressive I do not think it is slammed. On one of the threads I read about lowering, they said to use the #1 shim under the springs. I did not see any of the other shims but if you think the car is too slammed, I think you can raise it slightly with these shims.

I have heard that the EIBACH springs ride a little more friendly around town so you dont lose the "boulevard" ride, and that the H+R springs are lower and firmer all the way around. Thats why I am leaning towards EIBACH.
Aftermarket springs are weird - you dont know what you've got until you spend the time, and $$$ to install them. I made an expensive mistake on another car once (too firm) dont want to do that again !

E63 AMG, formerly E55 AMG
Good choice going with H&R! My friends at H&R just gave me a set and I'm getting ready to put them on tomorrow.
I read Someone said they wanted a conservitive drop. To do this you can buy thicker spring bushings from the dealer or buy a set of adjustable spring perches. Either way you will love the ride and comfort of H&R. They do a good job of balancing comfort and performance in all applications.

I am also looking at lowering my 01 E55 with H&R springs. You did not change teh shocks or anything else? Just the springs? Pics would be most appreciate as well as other comenst abt ride etc.
As a side note, I was a little confused by the H&R springs having the same part number no matter what model (E320, E430, E55). Is this correct? Thank you in advance.
By the way, my 1st post here!!

HMMM... from reading all the posts on both sites here is what I conclude ...
EIBACH lowers less (about 1") and is progressively wound for a softer boulevard ride. But, tightens up on compression for better cornering than stock AMG springs.
H+R seems to be the setup that drops more (about 1.5 ") is non progressive and so is more sports oriented = firmer ride overall.
All that considered, I think EIBACH is the way to go for my preferences (slight drop, and maintain good around town ride) on my W210 E55.

Guys,
Here are some pics of my 02, although you can not acutally see the distance between the wheels and the body it is close to an inch. The H& R springs I bought said it would drop the can 1.3", I think it was very close to that.
