Build thread BADDEST! 2002 E55

Future plans.
coilovers
w211 rear diff with wavetrac LSD and 2.82 gears
one piece carbon drive shaft
e85 advances fuel dynamics(best flex fuel kits)
carbon trunk spoiler
rear e55 w211 calipers with slk55 rotors
c63 w204 front seats
strut tower bars if I can find, or will make custom
hopefully custom Headers built by MBH, currently running Kleemann headers.
stand alone trans controller, with paddle shifters.
Oil cooler, from slk55

New parts-
lower control arms
upper control arms
lower ball joints
sway bar bushing and links
rear main seal
Southern Hotrod built trans
water pump, belt, idlers, and tensioner
oil stand gasket, and oil cooler gasket
rear control arm bushings
H&R springs and Bilstein shocks
Brand new intake manifold
EGR delete, from East coast euro, with air injection delete as well from East cost euro.
East Coast Euro motor mounts
k40 relay
that’s about all I can think of at this time.

6/10/19 Bought it from the guy around 7pm. Drove it back to the shop, changed the oil. Went to a trans service, noticed there was metal in the fluid. So it now has a rebuilt Southern Hotrod trans, mild street build. with a new MB torque converter. Car sat for 3 months, till I could save the money for the trans.

It made 301whp and 310tq. 129,000 miles.

Few weeks later, I figured I would give the Turtle wax black box a try.

Headers

Didn’t get any pics, but I swapped my headers and x pipe from my 2000 E55 onto this car. Dynoed and tuned.

ended up making 330whp and 349tq

Next I needed to test fit the rotors and calipers. You can not use e63 two piece rotors. Also sanded the calipers down and repainted them with new stickers.

Next I started with some carbon tubing and an AEM air filter. Super easy to make and install. Also used some air ducting routed in the bumper. Picked up, almost 20whp and 20lb ft of torque! Also still needs to be retuned. AFR went from 11.3 to 13.3! Made a huge difference. I recommend this mod to anyone.

Figured I would see what polishing the valve covers looked like. This was done with a wire wheel, then used Blue magic metal polish and a soft pad. I think it came out well, have not installed yet. May end up with wrinkle red or black.

Also made a head shield out of exhaust heat shielding from the under side on an E63

Nicely done. I like the revised air intake and the documented increase in power and torque. From your handle I assume you are at one of the Eurocharged shops in Texas and your ECU is being retuned to account for the increase in air flow? I'm not out to obtain massive increases in power in my W210 E55 but the engineer in me likes the idea of optimizing what is there. I would be interested in installing the same intake on my car so long as I could obtain a tune to keep air/fuel ratio in a safe zone...

And looks like lots of nice Mercedes in the background.

Love the work. Did the front wheels fit without any modifications? Usually the suspension bolt at top of tire rubs. What are sizes and offset of wheels? What tire sizes did you use with new wheels? Thanks.

This is my last dyno pull with the flex fuel kit installed and running 70% ethanol. It’s still to lean to make more than just 6whp over 93. But once it’s down to 11.5 to 12.5 afr it should make over 20whp and 20wtq

Yes I work at the Austin location. I am usually last on the list of tunes, also since we are dyno tuning it. Normally we would just send a file to the customer.

What year is your e55, that makes a big difference on how easy it is to tune it.

it barely barely rubs, its stock wheels from a 2014 e63 with factory tire sizes. I used a 7mm spacer, like I said it barely rubs, you can’t feel it. Nor can you tell it rub on the tire.

I've got two, a 2005 W211 E55 (with Eurocharged tune but otherwise stock) and a 1999 W210 E55. The 1999 is effectively stock but I performed considerable restoration on it (interior, exterior, mechanical, suspension, headlights, etc); I've spent close to $15,000 total for the car and restoration which is more than it is worth but it's a labor of love and I've learned quite a bit about Mercedes in the last six years. Currently chasing down a gremlin in the instrument cluster that only shows up when the temperature drops into the 40's or below. Eventually the muffler is going to have to be replaced as it is beginning to show signs of corrosion.

I need to make a road trip up to y'all's shop sometime; you're not quite two hours north of me.

Yea come stop by anytime. We currently have 7 113k cars here right now. Including our 9sec drag e55.

Awesome keep it up !! But that flexfuel kit seem pretty expensive, like 1k$ ? Why not go for a standalone ECM at that price and get full control of the engine, fuel etc? An Elite 2500 or something similar.

Well the flex fuel kit for me was free, because we helped develop them for Mercedes. But is also the safest way to run ethanol in a Mercedes. 1000$ isn’t that expensive, considering it makes more power, than headers or a tune. And a stand-alone would require a lot more work than just buying the standalone it’s self. The flex fuel kit takes 10 mins to install. Hopefully next week, I should have some new numbers, with E85. The intake I installed leaned my car out to 13.3 which is ok to run on E85 but you really need 11.5 to 12.5 to take advantage of it.

Yea an elite 2500, is at least 2000$. Plus wiring and hours of tuning. I am not a tuner, I would have to pay someone to tune my car. Plus we have control of the computer, that’s all we need. Our race car that runs a 9.64 in the 1/4 mile, runs a factory ME2.8

Yes Elite 2500 was a very bad suggestion, I just knew you had that brand in the USA. In Europe we have some very good ones that cost around 1k usd, like Maxxecu or ecumaster emu etc. Couple that with aftermarket tc controller from ofgear.dk for about 800$. Something I'd like to try if I get an opportunity,

But yeah you don't need that with ME2.8, I have 2.0 so I don't have choice. I'm curious though how many parameters can you change in the ME2.8? Ignition and fuel maps, rev limit?

t will be very interesting to see your final power figures when it's done! If an LS 5.3 can make 500 NA then why shouldn't this 5.4 be able to reach high 400s?

There is much more support and aftermarket products for the LS. Someone else has already done the R&D and you don't get the Mercedes tax added to the part. In addition, with an LS you only need to buy 1 cam vs 4 with the M113.

NA is not is way to go for bang for the buck. Engimeer a turbo kit and make some real power. It is just so much harder to make power with a NA engine when you are starting from scratch and doing your own R&D.
