SRS light

I bought my E55 with the SRS light on and I was wondering if you guys think there's a link between that and the fact that the multicontour seat won't work and the passenger side seat controls seems faulty - sometimes I'm trying to go backward and it keeps going forward.

Thanks for the input guys!

That is classic door seat switch soldered joints go bad. You can replace the switch $100 each. Just save yourself the headache and replace them with new ones. I battled this for several years and just kick myself for not spending the money so they work correctly.

First try clearing the SRS code. I might just need to be cleared and it stays off. You'll need a scan tool that can connect to the 38 Pin STAR port under the hood. You cannot clear SRS light via ODB II port. If light/code comes back,
there is a weight sensor for the SRS in the passenger seat. It notoriously goes bad and is really expensive to replace/fix. You can search for options to handle this, but I won't give out any recommendations considering the safety implications involved with the SRS.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input! The adjustments for the lumbar support will also start working with that fix? I can't even hear the air pump coming on and all the fuses look OK.

Multi-contour seats are pneumatic. The seat switch controls (and SRS sensor in passenger seat) are electric. Chasing down air leaks on the seats isn't really worth the effort in my book.

I don't hear any leaks so I was mostly thinking about the air pump being bad but I will investigate!

Prefer to diagnose the car first, codes will helps to narrow it,,

there are a main (3) reasons could collapse the SRS system:-

*bad belt locking and SRS module.

*one of impact/crash sensors went away.

*bad child seat mat recognition sensor, which is most common SRS issues with many MB models,,

it needs an Emulator/Simulator to deactivate it & display the light as well..
