Brakes for W210 E55
My W210 E55 is in the shop for instrument cluster re-replacement (finally the dealer admitted that they ordered the wrong part)
So I'm doing Service A also.... and now the dealer informed me that all brake pads and front rotors need to be replaced.... They quoted me $1400 for all pads and front rotors installed.
Is this cheap? Is there any aftermarket brakes that is better than stock? If so, how much and where can I get them? I know Brembo is better - but is it worth the $$$? Plus, the dealer claimed that the OEM is softer so it won't screeching.
I rarely bring my car to tracks.... so 95% use is on regular street and another 4% is occasional street racing.
For those who live in the Bay Area, do you know any good shop and cheaper than dealers to replace the brakes?
I honestly have never replaced the brakes on my E55.... so not sure how difficult it is. If anyone in this forum is kind enough to help / teach me, that'll be the best
Any help / input / advice / suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Is your car out of warranty? Shouldn't this be included in the service warranty
$1400 is a lot of money for rotors and pads. You should also call couple other places before getting it done

Yes, it's out of warranty already.... so for sure I have to pay them myself. And yes, $1400 is a lot of money.... I've checked w/ my regular shop.... they quoted me $1100 installed for ALL OEM rotors (4) and pads. So I guess, the figure should be around $600-$800 for front rotors and ALL pads.... According to them, no aftermarket w/ same size is available..... I could upgrade to bigger brakes but not sure whether my stock wheels would fit.
Any advice?

$724 for parts at list price, and maybe two hours labor. Should be around $1000 for the fronts. Add the rear pads (don't know the price off the top of my head) and maybe another 15 minutes, although it should be covered under the first two hours as the car is already on the lift.

63K and counting..... the last year only spent 5K, though, coz I bought a 540i for commute until this monday when the car got totaled
So I guess, I'm ramping up the mileage again until I could find another car
Anyone knows good and bigger aftermarket brakes.... I use Brembo for my Max...

James, Any idea where to get (w/ product ID if possible ) and how much? Is this the same size as the stock or bigger? Does it only include rotors and pads or a kit (including brake line, calipers, etc.)?
My regular shop claimed that Brembo doesn't make the kit for stock size....
Thanks!

Zoink,
If you are looking for stock replacements and not aftermarket again i'm not sure but you may want to try and look at www.performanceproducts.com or maybe www.irotors.com and see if they carry it. Maybe you should try Brembos? Check the classified section i think there might be a few there who is selling their kit. I know if you get the aftermarket Brembos they will come with everything you need. Calipers, hats, braid lines, rotors etc...

i was quoted 700.00 to upgrade my whole braking system to a 4 piston system...
so 1400 is definitely too much...
if you go on ebay you can find brembo cross drilled rotors both pairs for about 200.00 plus s/h
pads shouldn't be that much...and also you could do the swap yourself...
we did the pads on my e430...
