Question Any changes from 2005 to 2006 E55??

Hi,

My dealer told me that I would get a 2006 E55 if I would order now. Does anybody have any news about changes/new options from 2005 to the 2006 E55? My dealer told me that the 2006 would have a 7-speed automatic transmission. Is that correct ?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Well mr.dealer doesn't know what he is talking about

Unless he is dropping a bombshell about a brand new 7-speed gearbox, the E55 wont have one. The current 7-speed gearbox cannot handle the torque generated by the supercharged V8s and turbocharged V12s.

The new SLK55 has the 7-speed but it is not supercharged.

I could be wrong but if you order now, wouldn't that mean April/May production? The 2005 model didn't start production until November last year

You would think that if AMG had adapted the 7G Tronic for the '06 E55, then it would be reasonable to say that it would also be fitted to the CLS55 as thats an '06 model as well. But no, the CLS55 has the same 5 speed with AMG Speedshift and I would bet that the '06 E55 will have the same.

2005 E55
Isn't the CLS an 06 model? It has a 5 speed trans and a 5.5 SC engine. Can we assume that the 06 E AMG will have the same drivetrain? If the 06 E is a 6.3 or a 6.5, will MB change the CLS drivetrain to 6.3 or 6.5 when the other 06's begin production? More questions.

I can bet that the E55 will never have a 7 speed transmission. Why? Because the new 6.3 V8 is on the way and it doesn't make sense to change a model that is soon to be replaced.

As far as I know the E55T we are hopefully getting late 4/05 is an 05 model. I do know others who already have them have 05's.

Thanks!

I wouldn't be surprised if my dealer gave wrong info about a 7-speed E55. Sadly but true, giving wrong information about their own cars happens every day

I personally don't care if I would get a 5 or 7-speed as long as they don't continue cancelling available options like they did from 04 to 05.

But chances are good that this won't be the case, based on the 06 E350 (nothing was discontinued so far).

My dealer (Mercedes Benz of Tampa) told me twice that the ordered car would def. be a 2006, so I'm confident that's correct.

I'll let you folks know after I placed my order tomorrow...

Thank you once again for this interesting discussion..

This kind of puts those of us who are looking forward to a 6.3 or 6.5 in a rut. Given that dealers are already telling customers that their orders will result in '06 E55's but are only talking about the tranny, we've got a problem. No dealer would take an order for an '06 E55 without saying "Oh wait, its not a 5.5 anymore..." I mean come on, if any order from this point on will result in an '06 E55 and not an E63 or E65, I guess we're waiting till '07. Right? (I hope not)

I have a strong feeling the 7 speed tranny can handle the power of the supercharged V8. People have already supercharged SLK55s, so they are putting put the same HP and TQ figures as an E55 with no tranny modification.

If Mercedes says it cannot handle the power i think its all just an excuse.

But the SLK55 is not SC from MB. If you get a tuner to install a SC, only time will tell if any negative effects to the tranny.

Just go with headers, ecu, & pulley from Evo, Kleemann, or Renntech and you are in 65 AMG territory with close to 600 HP and well over 600 torque. Why worry about the 6.3 when the above basic mods will make our current E55 much faster.

Just look at what Derek and Eric have done with some basic modding

Yes, thats very true, we really dont know how it will hold up in the long run. But Mercedes has always made such strong trannys, i would bet it would be ok. Just a guess though.

Just read in a German forum that somebody drove an E63 stating the car had a 7-speed transmission and that the 7th gear turned in at a speed of 280KM/h...I think we will see a 7-speed AMG.
