Lightbulb Larger tire on stock wheel. The pictures and some info.

The first thing I had to change on my new car were the tires. The (OEM) ContiSportContact 2's that come with the car are sh*t(no flames please).
I decided to go with a larger, more aggressive tire. The Michelin Pilot Sports would fit the bill. 275/35 in the rears while keeping the 245/40 up front. I know the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is a better tire but I love the tread design of the former Pilots and I have had alot of experience with these tires on my previous M3's

I started this thread because the previous threads never posted pictures. Going from a 265/35 rear to a 275/35 does not change the ride. The car now bites harder when accelerating and it definitely changes the stance of the E55.

Below, I have listed some stats. on the different tires, as well as posted some pictures of the changeover.

Max Load(ml) Tire Wt.(tw) Diam.(d)

ContiSport 2
245/40 1433 lbs.(ml) 24 lbs.(tw) 25.7"(d)
265/235 1609 lbs.(ml) 25 lbs.(tw) 25.2"(d)

Pilot Sport
245/40 1433 lbs.(ml) 24 lbs.(tw) 25.8"(d)
275/35 1521 lbs.(ml) 28 lbs.(tw) 25.7"(d)

Pilot Sport 2
245/40 1433 lbs.(ml) 24 lbs.(tw) 25.7" (d)
275/35 1521 lbs.(ml) 25 lbs.(tw) 25.6" (d)

I can't believe the old Pilots Sports are 3 lbs heavier for the 275/30-18" size. But same weight as ContiSport2s...

What are your inital observations from Contis to the PS1?

Side by side the OEM Conts. feel a couple of pounds heavier than the Pilots.
I got the numbers off the Tire Rack site so I am not too sure how accurate the stats are.

As far as the change in the ride, I think they give the car a more compliant and quieter ride. They also hook-up much better. After I wear these out, I will try the PS2.

I also notice a lot more compliant and quieter ride when going from CS2s to PS2s. Braking seems easier to modulate and much better brake feel...maybe due to grippier tread compound.

275 on stock rim

Rock,
Does the 275 tire on the stock rim rub on your wheel well? I would like to do the same thing but am concerned about the tires rubbing on my wheel wells.
Thanks,

No problems with rubbing. The changeover is seamless.
