Just wanted to share my thoughts about Matt and the rest of the AI Design team. I sent my car via closed transport (Intercity) to Tuckahoe, NY last week. Intercity is the official mover of the Porsche Carrera GT and they did a geat job. I was only going to get the integrated V1/K40 system installed into my car with the etched rear view mirror display. When I noticed that they also happen to be a Kleemann dealer I pulled the trigger on the K2 package. Could not resist the temptation

All I can say is that my car has been transformed and the work that they did was AWESOME. I took it by my dealership and the MB service manager fell in love with the car. He said that this car pulls like the 600 and 65 AMG series cars and was very impressed with the quality of the Kleemann product.

Everyone who has seen my V1 so far can not believe that the display is etched into the mirror. If anyone in my area wants to see first hand the type of work they did just PM me.

First class outfit and they get my vote

Thanks to Matt, Mark, and Chris

Why AI? I am in Ohio, and considering a trip to RPM Racing (NY). Can you tell me a little more about AI and your new Kleemann stage II install.

Thanks

Eric,

Will take some pics of the V1 mirror in the AM. I think the straight downpipe is welded on our headers. Spoke with Cory yesterday and we were discussing the size of the headers and then you posted pics.

Good to know... I've been considering shipping out my SL55 to them from California... I visited them during a trip home to NYC a few months ago... I can't find ANYONE here in SoCal who does the level of work that they do...

I tend to think AI Design is very overpriced. I used to go to them back when I was in High School. I think the same quality is available at a lot lower price. I have the V1 in my mirror in my 996 Turbo. It was installed by Mobile Extreme in Elmsford. Billy and Mike the owners of Mobile Extreme both used to work at the old location of AI Design when it was Auto Concepts. The owner of Auto Concepts was a coke head and ran the place into the ground. AI Design moved in and took over. AI Design has since relocated to a larger Facility. Here are the pics of the work done by Mobile Extreme. This was done over three years ago.

Duane,

I shopped around and found that AI prices are in the same range (sometime less) with other installers of this high end work. They have a gorgeous facility since I went and toured it before sending my car up.

Just out curiousity since I have been planning on bringing my car up there too...

How do we update the software on the valentine when it needs to be updated?? Is it possible, or will we forever have outdated software and hardware once it's installed?

My understanding is that the V1 can be updated with newer software unlike other units. Off course the V1 was out for many years before having the lastest update w/pop. My gut tells me that it will be a long time before V1 updates the unit again.

I was referring to when it's done in a custom install and the unit is essentially in pieces....then what do we do?

SOL Good question, not sure if they would need to pull it out to update the software. When I was planning on having the dealer do it (not integrated or on the mirror) they did tell me if a update does happen they would just pull out the display unit and update the software.

Gambling that V1 will not be updated for a good 5 years or so and then who knows how fast your local law folks will have the latest and greatest stuff. They still use old fashion radar and sometimes laser around here.

How long do you plan on keeping your car?
I know mine will probably be gone by the time a new V comes out.

Just spoke with AI which I should of done this when you first posed the question. The answer is that they will swap it out for you for what the difference is in the new unit from what you paid for the old (typically no more then $200 w/labor). This is a service they do for customers who had the system installed by them.

Just thought it'd be fair...

to post my AI experience here...unforutnately, it wasn't as great as others.

They installed a Kleemann boost kit and headers on my CL. Everything was great until I started hearing what sounded like an exhaust leak (about 3500 miles after install). Brought it into my dealer and they said that some of the header studs had been replaced by bolts and then they had sheared off!

Long story short, AI claimed they had installed what Kleemann shipped them and Kleemann claimed they wouldn't ship the header kit with mismatched equipment. AI wouldn't warranty the install, they told me that since I bought the parts directly through Kleemann (and not through them), that they wouldn't help me out any further (implying that they already did me a favor). IMO, if AI had profited from the sale of the parts, I think they'd have been happy to cover their install.

I spent over $10k at AI..not the treatment I was expecting
