Hi Dan,

I spoke to Pete, the shop forman at our dealer, and he doesn't have that CD to upgrade the '04 COMAND to play MP3 discs. I think it's just a matter of MBUSA not release those types of goodies to their US dealer network. Oh well...

Oops...thanks for the clear up Steve. I stand corrected

Maybe it's just us getting stuff a lot slower in Hawaii.

They did the upgrade for free.
No invoice.
The tech and I sat in the car for 15 minutes chatting while the CD did its thing - then I was out of there!

I was polite but persistant with my request for the upgrade.
If they won't help, talk to Steve and see if you can get it from him - well worth the effort!

thank OzE55

Thanks, I am going in tues for Service C and will let them know and ask them again...last time I ask him the service advisor never ask the teck/foreman, I will ask him to ask them this time. THanks again....if not I just wait Steve come here and buy from him....or just get the Euro Unit from him.

BTW...off the topic but, my E55 only 7700 miles and show service C already due in 27 days....just 1 year and 1 month, is it normal? I thought only every 12000 miles for service...i know it is not a bad thing but I didn't expect that fast...my C32 call in like almost two years and only 9000miles for the first service. Thanks

It sounds about normal. My car is approaching service D with about 9600 miles, but I think it's a few more thousand more before D. I can remember when I had C, but it was probably around the same mileage as yours when Blaise had my car for a few days.

At least for the '04 maintance is free... I can't believe for '05 MB doesn't give the maintance package...I don't think it's so much a factor for these cars, but for the entry level C class buyer who isn't focused on a certain car, that might just turn them to BMW where maintance is still free.

Service C

They said is cost cutting...I was thinking going to BMW too if they cutting the service for my wife's car...like a X3 or X5...BMW covering everything even brake..and wiper...many people shopping with overall cost in the future too...for sure they lost some smaller car sales to BMW.

Well, that's at least $300 cost for their service C, I am happy with that...

I heard the CLS still have the main. pkg cover, don;t know if only Hawaii dealer doing it or from MB...

Although for most of us, $300 isn't a make it or break it amount for maintance, $300 bucks is almost a lease payment for someone in a C230K...You wonder why MB's C lease rates are so terrible when compared to BMW's 3. No one is gonna even service their leased C-Class...MB is gonna have a whole bunch of badly maintained lease returns...think about much that is gonna hurt pre-owned benzes.

As far as wipers, those are still covered on pre-'05 cars. I just ordered a new set for my car from Blaise, and it's was free under warranty.

I hope I haven't fixed one problem and inherited another.

The mp3s still play but today the COMAND system wouldn't load the phone book from my Nokia 6210. The phone can still be diallled via the COMAND but I cannot call up the phone book into the speedo/dash display.

Anybody have a thought?
Hope its just bad luck.

I fixed the problem AND have ///AMG on the COMAND!

pushed - MAP(not CD as others have suggested - that didn't bring up the menu),
then 3-5-7 ( actually push 5 and hold then 3+7, all three together) and bought up the menu and changed it to AMG211ECE (something like that).
Selected it with the arrows and pushed OK for a second or two then 'back' button then turned off the car, removed the key, shut the door and walked away for 10 minutes or so.

Have restarted 4 times and the ///AMG flashes up on the COMAND and the phone address book now loads again.

I suppose that the euro settings are needed for my Nokia 6210 to integrate properly.

Hope this helps someone.

This car's got some grunt! I love it!

Remember it is for the Comand. The car model is less relevant and there are probably instructions out there somewhere. Check the pn or call the kit vendor to verify fitment but it seems pretty universal to me.

Thanks to everyone for this cordial and valuable discussion.

I gave up on the CD changer failing every other year so it is iPod land in hi Rez format.

Thanks to PCH for the original tip.

Thanks for you´re help
I did find the mercedes original cable art nr, aux for comand.
Ordered it from german to sweden, and plugged it in the back of my comand..
Btw, the original cable was not expensive! it was like 40 USD.
If i uses the price i payed in sweden
it worked, even better than i thought!
The input is now placed in the small "box" under the cd changer.
I thought it was easier to use it there
