My guess would be yes. We live in a very litigious society, and a corporation like BMWNA is too smart, not to do what they can to minimize their repair costs and potential legal actions from owners

That was hardly a "beating." I would think a stage one or two Kleemann would change the outcome.

May be a different silver E55 will change the outcome without any stages, judgung by its performance against E55T wagon.

Belmondo, the Silver E55 ran the E55T down from behind & passed it. So its not slow. Are you going to keep making excuses for the rest if your life? Videos not good enought for you?

M&M - where is there evidence of the silver E55 passing the E55T? Maybe you saw something that I haven't seen yet. I am being serious - not trying to be cute.

The pictures that I saw, including the ones in the other thread show the T ahead of the sedan in every frame. And by the way, does anyone know for certain where the camera was? Do those shots show were the cars were while racing, while coasting to a stop, while getting ready to race? I don't know, maybe because I am a lawyer (flame away), I always need to know all the facts before I draw conclusions. :p

Enzo: FYI I beat the E55 Estate several times as well .Cant you just trust me? You seem to trust the video you saw...

jsut go accept that the M5 is faster than any E55 AMG in standard form. Everything have showed that so far.

Not trying to stir the pot between you two but the sedan looks like it's still behind in those pictures.

THe Wagon with all its extra weight pressing down on the driven wheels will have better traction. Maybe he reacted 1st as well. Because he'a ahead for the 1st few feet doesn't mean its faster. But in the last pic it looks to me like the sedan has levelled up.

Gustav - I think the basic disconnect is pretty simple. Now, my own observations have taught me that one test does not create an absolute. I had a Z06 with some basic bolt-ons. I took it to the track many times. (See, here in the US we have many dragstrips where you can have detailed timeslips that allow you to compare your times and speeds to others that also spend time at tracks.) My experience with the Z06 and those that owned them is that even the "same" car can be highly different from another. Even taking into account that some drivers are better than others, some Z06's ran 12.2X at 117, while others ran 12.9-13X at 112 mph on the same day, under the same conditions. Some cars are just stronger than others.

Moreover, a determination of which car is faster, for those of us on this side of the pond, rests mostly on how it does in the 1/4 mile. US spec car v. US spec car. Customer v. Customer. The speeds that matter to most of us here are under 125 mph. We don't have an autobahn. In most states, exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 mph is an automatic revocation of one's driving privileges.

The M5 in your test was faster at speed that the E55 in the video. (By the way, the M5 in your test ran from 0 to 100 mph with a driver and two passengers in the same time it took Motor Trend to get the new F430 to that same speed in this month's issue. ) But I still have not seen enough to be convinced. Show us a timeslip - or even a magazine test of an M5 (preferrably a US Spec M5) running the quarter better than 12.0 @ 117 mph. When I see them, that will be the proof that I (and many like me) are looking for. It isn't much to ask for. And when it comes, all questions will be answered. Pretty simple. Please don't be frustrated with me because BMW hasn't delivered their cars to US customers yet or because European owners don't take their cars to dragstrips. In fact, if you want to help the situation, why don't you ask some CUSTOMERS on your board to head to a dragstrip and post their timeslips.

In Sweden where we almost dont have any quarter mile tracks. Also it is a big problem gettign a US spec M5 in Europe, esp. since it is not fully developed and for sale yet.

FYI this might interest you, this is five pages long:

Hey Gus.....I challenge you to name us 3 things you think are pretty disappointing with the new M5.

And don't give me "that I can't drive it enough"...etc.

If you are a true auto lover and not "paid mouth piece" of BMW, then you should be able to bang off at least 3 significant issues that you do not like about the new M5.

I think the E55 is a wonderful car but here are my 3

1) I think is was a mistake not put LSD on them

2) We have horrible heat soak issues with the blower.

3) When you place anything on the passenger seat....the beeping makes you wanna kill yourself.

Sir, I have spent an hour looking through your posts and rantings and can not find ONE negative thing you have said about the new M5. We here at the MBForum are big enough men that we can say how much we love our cars, but offer creative input of how to make them better.

To say it is the perfect car would be as much laughable as it is incorrect.

Check out the conclusion page: drawbacks: no manual, not many colours offered and fuel consumption.

my 3 things i don't like about the E55

1. center arm rest gets in the way of chicks going down on you.
2. rear window shade snags on chicks who don't know its there, toes.
3. somtimes the auto steering wheel and seat move when you get in and out and somtimes it don't!

If you have spends hours reading our forum without finding negative feedback on BMW M models, you must have reading with your eyes closed.....

Perfect cars are probably not build yet, but what I consider perfect is maybe something completly different from your definition of perfect.

The M5 is as close as it gets to be a perfect car for me. It does excactly what I want in a car.

I have only 30-40 minutes seat time in the new M5 so my experience is very limited, but during my drive that involved, highspeed driving on twisty countryside roads with speed up until 115 mph, autobahn speed 135 mph and midtown driving, not many negative aspects of the car came up...
Some would belive it to be to stiff in the setup, for me it was perfect, I like the SMGIII some will not. The gearshift in S6 mode is brutal, but in Automode it was smooth as hell.

Some negative point that has been dicussed by owners so far is:
1. Fuel consumption
2. To small fuel tank.

Not man cars made would fit my need and desires better than the new M5, periode. Cant think of any actually..

2000 W210 E55->2003 R230 SL500->2004 W211 E55->2007 997TT+2007 E63->2010 GLK350->2012 E550 4matic
1. Small tank

I don't mind the gas mileage but the small tank sounds pretty annoying. I heard in city the range is only good for 250 km?

For long distance, does it mean I'll end up losing more time when I speed, as I'll have to make more fuel stops?!

2. No Fog lights

3. Useless telematics without a proper phone keypad. In fact, not sure if I can live with the overall poor ergonomics.

I'm happy with the colour choices as it offers more interior variations than our E55.
