You won't be able to put true HID Xenon bulbs into the foglight assembly of the E55. Many here have tried and failed. Something is wrong with the voltage I think. Just get a Silverstar foglight bulb from Sylvania and you will be happy.

E55 AMG WAGON
The problem is that you have to tell MB to adjust the settings because the watts are different. Now I don’t know if MB can do it for the Fogs but they do reset the lows to 35 watts instead of 55 which are the halogen.. I guess it’s easier to get the white bulbs instead. So what type of bulbs are on the foglights??

I think it is a H1 bulb, but I can't remember too correctly. People have tried going to MB to get the voltage changed via STAR Diagnostics and what not and still have failed. Best bet is to get some whiter bulbs like I suggested earlier.

2014 GL 350 on order
e55amg: IM PLANNING ON PICKING UP MY 05 e55 THIS WEEK. i ALSO WANT TO CHANGE MY FOGS TO XENONS-I DONT WANT TO DO THE SECOND BEST APPROACH BY USING FAKE LOOKING BULBS-THEIR LUMEN OUTPUT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO hid SYSTEMS. I too haven't heard many solutions to this issue yet but I wll share my limited info that I have gleaned so far. The bulbs are H 11 in the E55 AMG fogs as I confirmed this with our parts manager at the dealer. Also I have been told that you have to have your computer re-flashed so it will recognize the 'alien' lites otherwise you get an error message on the dash that says 'fog lites'. The HID are 12 V but inly consume 35 watts of power unlike 55W like the halogens. The halogens have a resistive element, the HID are not using a filament, they generate a plasma arc with much less resistance. Im hoping that our engineers in the audience will help us out with solutions but so far not much feedback-I believes its doable, did it on my 2001 M5 without any problems. Members, any help please??

JokerzWld,
HID in your fogs is not going to help improve visbility a lot. At best, it only creates more glare to on ward traffic. The HID is mostly for looks.
E55GG,
Did you look at your owner's manual? The bulb type is stated in your owner's manual. For E55, I believe it's 9006. There were even threads on this forum to teach you how to change the bulb, just search the forum

Yes I looked at the manual but mine is an E55T and the manual is for all wagons.. I just didn’t trust it because everywhere I look there is a different number.. Even in this thread I’ve heard 4 dif. types already..

E55: go to your parts man and ask him-dont trust me but thats what I did and I ve ordered a set from "The xenon store".
KEV04: why do you say that HID's wont improve visibility? The color correction is at daylite spectrum and the total lumen output, which is an accurate measure of total illumination, is 300% greater. Please someone correct me if Im wrong! Joker

Since the lens were not designed for HIDs, the light pattern that you get out of the fogs might not be useful to you at all. The other problem is that HID creates more glare to on coming traffic, which could be hazard in foggy condition.

I swapped out the factory one for PIAA 7500 Spark Blue's and they look great. The bulb is an HB.
