20" HRE 540R Question
I had my local Discount Tire try to install some used 20" HRE 540R wheels this morning.
When they tried to install the front wheels, the wheel bore would not allow the center cap (with the HRE shield and logo) to be installed. Is this normal? Did this happen for other HRE 20" wheel owners? Do the HRE require spacers?
I appreciate everyone's help.
Thank you,
Darren

Hi Darren,
I installed the 542R's a few weeks back, with no issues whatsoever. Actually, HRE is one of the only manufacturers that makes the wheels to spec for our E55's, thus they should be a factory sort of fit. There should be no need for spacers.
When you ordered the wheels, did you specify what kind of car they were for? If so, call HRE and explain the issue to them. They should correct their mistake. If you did not specify the type of car, then yo may have to go with a fix (such as spacers.)

Thanks for the quick reply E55 Rocket. I am purchasing the wheels used and they came off a 2004 E55. My car is an '04 E55 as well, which is why I'm a little perplexed.

I thought you should be able to do that as well, but Discount Tire acted like they didn't know what to do.
The rear hub did not have the cap, but the front does. Is that normal? What does the centercap on the hub do (besides plug a hole )?

Well, I took off my standard 18" AMG wheel today and put on the 540R 20x10 wheel. The funny thing is the wheel stuck out about 1 inch beyond my fender well. What's even more weird is these wheels were originally installed on an E55 by wheelexperts. Here's the link with the original car (which is owned by a neighbor of mine now):

I don't understand how these wheels fit on this 2004 E55 with no major wheel exposure beyond the fender well, yet on my 2004 E55 it sticks out significantly. Tires are 285/25/20 on the rear wheel in question.
Has anyone experienced this yet, or possibly have a reason for this?
I appreciate your help. I'd really like to keep the wheels for my car since I think they're a great look with my Obsidian Black E55.

absolutely. I'll do that tomorrow morning and post them here. By the way, I'm referring to my rear wheel, although I'm sure that's obvious based on the 285/25 tire size.
