Air conditioning problem
Hello everyone. I am new to this page. My name is Jai Motwani. I have a 2005 e55 amg and have a smell of cat urine in my a/c. Can anyone of you acknowledge this complaint?

Hello, I've never bothered to smell cat urine, but I'm sure it's pretty damn bad. You might be experiencing the smell of sulfur, in this case. How long have you owned this car?

I purchased the car new in july of 04. The car only has 1600 miles. The odor is only when I start it up. I spoke with the dealer and they said they have a special product they use to correct it. We have tried this treatment but it did not work.

Every once in a while I get the smell as well, but it goes away in a matter of a few seconds. I've heard that the smell is due to residual moisture in the A/C system and it starts to slightly mildew after the car has been turned off for a length of time.
The best way to help rid your car of the smell is to use the A/C off (rest) button in your car. Just press the button before you leave your car and it should blow our the remaining moisture and be fresh the next time you get in your car.

yea dude if its brand new, get on their case to see what the eff is wrong with it dude. it shouldnt be happeneing to a 2005 e55, not cool at all. you paid like 90k fo the damn car, the ac shouldnt smell worse than the ac of a kia rio.

My 2005 E55 is just as bad and MB is looking a bit stupid not knowing how to fix it, since it already has the mods, ...supposedly!?!.

I spoke with mercedes benz again on the third repair. Apparently, the assemble line which produces the evaporators, did not coat them with a special coating which prevents mold and bacteria to grow on the evaporator. This case is common in high humidity area. Also my car only has 1600 miles because I have a few cars. I rarely drive my e55. The prolonged storing maybe increased the growing stage. Finally they stated they were going to r/r my dash to install the new evaporator. I told the dealer absoultely not. I will not let them canniabilze my car. I paid 90k for this car and I already lost my new car smell and have to smell a foul smell everytime I start my car. For all of you who are experiencing this problem thare is a mercedes benz bullentin to address the many complaint for this.

I too encounter a musty scent on different occasions...and I live in So FL.

The SLK also has this problem. Yuck.
So in summer I just drive with the windows open/top down (love the wind and hearing the engine, will drive with windows open in any car, even at 140km/h
), and in winter the A/C isn't needed. Still, it smells REALLY bad.

I too am having this issue. The dealership told me it's a common issue and was supposed to fix it when I took it in for an alignment this week. Come to find out the SA forgot to add it to the order and it never got done. I hope they can repair the problem and not just provide a bandaid solution that won't last more than a couple of months. It's almost embarassing when I have friends riding in my car. I don't want them to think my car stinks because of something else but I also don't want to tell them the whole truth and have them thinking that MB's are of low quality. I just ignore it and act like I don't smell anything if they ask since it goes away within a few minutes.

I haven't noticed any mildew smells yet, but Atlanta can also get pretty humid and the car may sometimes sit in the garage for 5-7 days if I'm out of town. No AC in the garage - I wonder if a good portable dehumidifier would minimize/prevent the problem.

Yep, Rafal, they did do away with the charcoal filters on the '05's, at least on the later builds. My July 2004 build had the REST feature, don't know whether it had the charcoal filter. My December 2004 build has neither.
And yes, Darren, all 2004's have both, to the best of my knowledge.

I set it on top of the middle console and let it burn in my car for about 15 minutes with the circulation A/C on. It would have been pretty difficult keeping a lit stick of incense steady the way I drive
