I'm sorry but i just cant see that happening... the car already has Headers, and simple ECU upgrade wont give anything close to 600hp.... Even E55 wont get 100 bhp with FI with just a ECU upgrade....what are they thinking?
What do you think?

No Way Jose!
Going to see if I can get a 11.6/11.7 at the track tomorrow. My gut tells me many more E55's will be running close to mid 11's then M5's. Just so much easier to mod the E55 to get these #'s then the M5. I may be wrong, but time will tell

How much Hp are you running and what are your mods....
I'm really debating on which next 55 should i buy to keep... I'm really leaning toward SL55, but i like the CLS55 too... What would you get to keep for like 5-7 years?

Cls55 All The Way!
BoBcanada - I would buy the CLS55 with the 030 performance package, a very unique car both in styling and performance. It is also more versatile and would not give up any performance compared to the SL55. The SL55 is also a bit long in the tooth, styling wise, having been out for a number of years now. I guess you can tell which car I like the best. - Bob

600 Streetable HP - NOT!
The V10. M5 motor is capable of 600 HP, but you would not want to have to deal with it on a daily basis. Remember it is at the 100 HP per Liter mark already. It's fun for the BMW guys to think about, however the ones that actually believe it don't have a clue how hard it is to get 120 HP per Liter out of a N/A Motor. - Bob

That car will get close to 600 hp NA with a chip bigger air intakes and full open exhuast.
This engine needs 4 times the amount of air than the reg 5 series to make its max power.Thats why BMW got rid of its fog lights.
they also have to keep the car civil and use air baffels so it dosnt wake up the whole town.
I dont see how you can't when theres many tuners that can get 540hp out of the old m5 and stay NA.
the M3 csl makes 112 hp/l stock and theres tuners that have it at 391hp thats 122/l
im pretty sure there will be no problem at all for tuners to get 600 out of a f1 style engine.

And what tuners did 540 hp out of M5? Maybe if you change half of the engine....
And also would you really play Russian rulet with high revving engine?? :p

ECU will give them 600hp
Yes tuners will find ways to provide mods to bring up the hp....but ECU alone was the original statement.
We already have been through this before.....the M5 guys claimed it will increase the redline on it and thus bring up the hp.....thus bringing back my reply...bawwww---hahhh-hahhhh.
Only way to bring up hp that much is more compression and/or more air flow....thus the impressive gains on our cars with ecu/pulleys that add boost and headers that move that exhaust gas.
When they start putting blowers and turbs on those pups....then things are gonna get interesting.

There are also rumors that this engine has seen over 10k rpms around the ring .With that many rpms and another vanos aka vtec kick it will see 600 plus at 9k the only problem is that the engine will be suffering and choking because of its restricked air intakes to keep it civil.
hartger has a 540hp m5 with cams intake ecu and full exhuast.Nowack also has a 500 plus beast.
powerchips has a new ecu for the old m5 that just came out and gives you 35rwhp dyno tested.
I read that the only difference between p400 mode and p500 is that the throttle bodies are opened 90% of the way.So a 10% decrease in air cost that engine to lose 100 hp.
lets see what happenes when tuners let that engine breath say 15% better.

If it is tuneable to 550+ hp, I think i'm gonna get one... maybe...

E60 M5 stock is enough
I dont want to start an M5vsE55 debate again,, but this is a small test from an owner of both cars..i enjoy driving them both..it is just my conclusion.. when the M5 came i thought the E55 is still going to beat it.. but i was wrong after i got my M5.. i have tested the M5 against the E55.. believe me the M5 is faster it keeps going and going there was 4-5 lengths, the M5 was ahead and its still keep going..
I did two tests one with LC whichthe m5 just get the jump and keeps going.. the other was without LC the E55 gets the jump then the M5 easily pass it and keep going..
PS: both cars are stock..
Both beutiful cars to drive.. Both cars will put the smile on your face..
Thanks

Yes but there's few minuses in M5 which i find annoying...
1. LC gonna destroy your clutch if you use it too much
2. As ex E55 owner I loved the torque around the town, you just press not even a half a pedal and you can pass any car not even going more then 4.500 rpms, with m5 you'de have to work that engine...
But there's also few minuses with E55 that i found.
1. Although it launches like a rocket you have to feather a pedal coz ESp kicks in and cuts the power, depending on the surface, So It needs an LSD. But i also drove in the winter even with stock tires i found that it drives beautifully in the winter.
2. Suspension must be harder.
3. When you do not watch your speedo you can get into troubles.
I do love M5 and E55, but what I decided is that M5 was made to be fast in upper speeds 100km/h + where's E55 monsterous torque makes it all around.
I'm still deciding on what my next car will be and as much as i love the new M5 I still think that i'll go with CLS or SL55! The torque it has is just so much fun, + you can get more out of it
