Noisy OEM Continental tires at 10,000 mi?

My sportcontact 2 tires seem to be getting seriously noisy at the 10 thousand mile mark. There seems to be a significant "humming noise" at highway speeds. Has anyone else experienced this?

"Has anyone else experienced this?"

Yes, at around 10K with Pilot Sport I. Pretty sure it was from cupping wear due to inability to rotate tires.

YES!!! My Conti's were horrible!!

I've also had Pilot Sport's - Pilot Sport M & S and they all start to scream
@ 7-10k miles.

This time I went with cheap Hankook's "Ventus 104" that have the same tread pattern as Michelins. I have to state they are wonderfully quiet and at $130/per tire they are "disposable", not to mention a YR or ZR speed rating.

Drop the Conti's and get a quiet ride again!!

i'll second, third, forth those guys before me and say... "LOSE THE CONTIS!"

Although PS2 seem to be the favorite on this board, I would just get anything but the contis. There are some other good tires out there...but I've had good experience with PS2s on my Alpina Z8 and on my old Porsche 996 GT3.

We all have experienced this problem after 6-12000 miles.
I think that Continental has not developed the sound harmonics with tread blocks half worn. I used to get this droning hummmm coming in waves at constant speed-really annoying!
In my current E55 I did not even bother, just took them off after delivery and put on PS2.

Hi guys and gals
first post here for me: I , too experienced the dreaded Conti Droning Syndrome. Its caused by edge wear, but mine was aided by incorrect front toe settings. After researching on this Board, I confronted the selling dealer in Augusta , Ga who was no help WHATSOEVER!!.
Got the dealer in Greenville, SC to check alignment and, since it was out of specs, got the factory rep to authorize two PS2 replacement front tires under warranty.
Now, after about 7500 miles, the PS2's are feather edging and beginning to drone (not as bad as the Conti's though). The Tech in Greenville suggested dismounting the tires and swapping side to side (so each still rotates same direction) so as to even out the edge wear.
YMMV

Tell the tech in Greenville that he is an idiot. PS2 have OUTSIDE and INSIDE clearly marked, with different rubber compounds and tread blocks for cornering on the outside edge. . If you do what he suggests your tyres will not perform nearly as well as they were designed to.You could do that trick only on the original Pilot Sport.

I have a different take on high performance tires for our cars. Having driven different cars on Pilot Sports, Contis, Nitto 555's, Fuzion ZRi's, and now Avons, I now value treadlife and value over performance. No set I've had so far lasted more than 11,000 miles and no tire will make our cars handle other than like the pig it is. PS2's are a waste of money. Spend half as much and get 90% as good a tire. So far the Avon Tech M550 is the best tire I've driven. It is an all season tire with excellent traction and treadlife. Great value too.
