Does anyone know of any company that makes a sway bar for our cars? I already have my car lowered and MAN OH MAN! what a difference. I would like to add bigger bars up front and out back.

I'm surprised we haven't heard alot or yet anything about these since I think our handling is our weakest or one of our weakest links to our W211 E55. Very good anit-sway bars or sway bars or stabilizer bars (whatever we call it) would definately help with our car's body roll and would make the beast alittle more enjoyable in the twisties.

Altho it is good to have but we must note that too much of stablizer bar is not a good thing. quote "If you have too much stabilizer bar, you tend to lose independence between the suspension members on both sides of the car. When one wheel hits a bump, the stabilizer bar transmits the bump to the other side of the car as well, which is not what you want. The ideal is to find a setting that reduces body roll but does not hurt the independence of the tires." unquote - howstuff works.

edit: I think brabus offers sway bars but I dont' know if it's with their K8 package or as a single item.

@ 695$ retail the Brabus sway bar kit is expensive. Even with the discount that I can get, it still it a lotta money.

However though, I think it's one of the best upgrades someone can do for the car because as you guys have already said before, handling is the weakest component of almost any Mercedes.

I talked to Brabus and they told me a while back that their sway bars are equivalent to the AMG sway bars already on the vehicle. Nice that he was that honest.

Someone answer me this. Do we actually have sway bars like other cars? Because I heard that the sway bars were somehow controlled electronically, and that is why we couldn't replace them. I maybe wrong.

If there are sway bars that can be taken out and replaced but simply taking out some bolts, I will get back to you guys and I MIGHT know someone who is willing to do it.

BTW: gmdebruyn, are you sure about that? On the W203 their bars are thicked (therfore, better, to an extent) than H&R's and AMG's.

It pushes because it has skinny tires up front.
It handles poorly because the tires suck.
The car has active lean control and mine is a solid rock to throw in the turns. Maybe its the new steering column?
Anyhow, 4000lbs isn't going to be but so agile, especially when it has 500 supercharged HP.

Brabus makes bars for the non amg w211 and those are the same dia. of the w211 e55.....

What is the actual dimension on the Brabus? I heard that the AMG have 18mm rear and 28 front. Are those number right? Can any one tell me what is on the Brabus?

I can tell you that I examined the rear suspension of my E55 and there is no conventional sway bar. The suspension is wholely controlled electroniclly by the pressure actuators in the air springs/struts. The front suspension looks similar and I suspect that there are no mechanical changes that can be made.

I think it will take sophisticated sensor programming changes that will be necessary to prevent sway. I remember reading an article before the W211 came out that stated that it was necessary to allow a certain amount of lean to maintain an acceptible ride. It also stated that MB purposely tuned in sway to prevent overdriving the vehicle in the curves. I hope I'm FOS but that what the article said.

I hate to disagree with you but there is definitely a sway bar back there. The rear height sensor mounts to it. There is no electronic roll control on the E55. People get confused because the other Kompressor cars (SL, S, CL) have ABC (active body control) and do not have sway bars. The W211 does not have ABC and thus uses traditional sway bars.

I think the car would benefit greatly in steady state cornering from a larger rear sway bar. This would help reduce the mid corner push. The problem is that (especially with the open differential) the car would lose traction on corner exit negating the gain in corner speed. Probably why AMG set it up the way they did. There is a much greater gain to be had by putting 265 tires up front. You then gain on the load rating as well so the car feels less mushy in the front.

There are sway bars on both front and rear for the W211. What year of E55 are you talking about? 2007? 2008?

I've looked and there is link that looks like a sway bar end but when you follow it toward the other side it doesn't connect. It only goes to the frame attached by a rubber bushing. You may be right but I sure can't find it. The sway bar on my Vette and M3 both attach somehow to the lower control arm.

I just found that there is a 21mm sway bar for the rear of the W211 part number A211 320 30 11. I got this information from the MB EPS. However, when I call the local dealer in the US, they said that this is only available in Europe and they have no way to order or bring them in to the US for me. Can any one in Europe seeing this post verify this for me? Do they rearly available in Europe? If it does, it will solve a lot of under steer problem.

Try asking Steve and Wanda (steve@mbenznl.com). They might be able to help. However, I really doubt if the parts people here aren't capable of getting the euro parts. I had them order stuff like Avantgarde mats, side emblems for me and had no problem with those. You may want to call another dealership, maybe Caliber in CA
