Just spoke to John today. He's shipping my 505A's today and I should have them tomorrow or Wednesday. I will post pictures When I have them on.

Can't wait to see the 505A's. My friend has a set on his '04 GTO and they look great. Will the lips on those be deeper than vrus's? While his 500's look hot, I'd prefer a deeper lip. I'm thinking of going with some SP16A's unless I stumble across a killer deal on used HRE's or something like that.
I agree that 20s would be too big on the E55. The wheelwells just don't proportioned to accomodating 20s like on a CLS or S-Class.

Houston,

Can't wait to see them!!

medici78,

Unfortunately, on a 19x10 casting, the lip size is what you see.. don't forget that it is a one piece wheel.. only so much material that can be cut out. On a 3-piece you can get much bigger lip.

My friend's GTO has a very good size lip (I'd guess about 2.5-3", but don't quote me)in the rear on his 505A's, which is why I was hoping the E55 would be able to fit something like that. Comparing his car to mine, it looked like it would be no problem to fit that size lip. I hope I'm right.

Well in HRE's, we can get 4" of lip in the rear, and with iForged and Avus we can usually add a little bit more, so I don't doubt CCW's ability to do the same.

I asked John about this at least 10 or 11 times..

He said on a 10" rim he would give me the max he could and that is what I got. Your friend with the GTO probably has 11" or wider wheels in the back. (I know the corvette runs 11" and he gets a big lip on it.

I think mine are 2.5".

That's intriguing. What kind of offset do you have in the rear? 35mm?

I also talked to John about the lip size as well. Even on a 11.5" rear rim for a supra, it's only 3 Inches that John can squeeze on there. I'm more intrigued about getting the tire sizes to fit perfectly without rubbing than the lip size. I'm happy with 255 fronts and 295 rears. If the lip size was bigger, it was more of a bonus even tho it's nice to have the 3-4" lip.

Actually, they are 19x10. I am 100% sure of this. He has 275 tires on it and they would begin to stretch if the wheel was even 10.5" wide. The rear fitment is for 10" wide wheels on the GTO is super-tight. If one was to tell the GTO guys you could fit 11" wheels on their car they'd call BS in a millisecond. John's wife has 18x10's on her GTO, so my friend went with the same offsets, but in 19".

Houston,
The poblem is our brakes. They are so big that its difficult to get the proper back spacing or pad thickness from a one piece wheel unless it is specificly made for that car. like VRUS said, if it was a 3 pc. wheel you would be able to have a larger lip. for instance on my wheels which are Kinesis I was able to do a 2.5" and a 3.5" outer lip which gave me a 9" and 10.5" wheel and the only way to get that was to get various sized outers, inners, centers and a ruler and see what fit perfectly. Kinesis was the only company to do that for me and better yet, they are really good people.

Use the washer method, you can DIY.

I would strongly recommend against the link method. There have been instances where "link'd" cars have had airmatic failures and although it's never been completely blamed on the links, it cannot be ruled out.

Pay the money, have Steve come out there and do it RIGHT, I know there are a couple E55 owners from Puerto Rico.

He's right. I'm sure Steve would be willing to fly out there if you cover his expenses. I was able to have Steve fly out to El Paso and have him lower my car AND install NAV in my non-NAV equipped E55 for less money than I would have paid for a lowering module alone. Best part is that its all done within MB specs. I'm sure you can get good prices on tickets from a major hub.
