We have no idea what the details are of the track event but the 996 driver is obviously not an experienced track driver.
The only way a stock E55 can overtake a stock 996 tt on a track is with a very poor driver like the one driving the black Porsche. You can clearly see it from the video, his lines are terrible. Even though the E55 makes more HP the horsepower to weight ratio - a much better performance indicator favors the Porsche.
A stock 996 - 8.81
A 996 w/ x 50 pkg - 8.13
E55 - 9.04
Face it guys our e55's are pigs and are certainly not sports cars or track cars. Don't get me wrong, I love the cars but you guys are dreaming if you think our cars in stock form will outperform sports cars. The e55 comes in at around 4243 lbs and a 996 tt is around 3659lbs.
Love the car but guys at least tell it like it is.

With a poor driver in the 996. Tell yourself whatever you need but the E55 is just not in the same league as a 996tt. Maybe with a 700lb diet and some brakes.

I'm not trying to tell myself anything, you can check my post history and I've always tried playing the devils advocate on how the E55 is just simply not a sports car.
It's agianst a new audience will I turn the tables. IMO, you're the one trying to tell yourself that the Porsche is truly a 'better' sports car.
But in the end bro, what does it matter? We're all drivers in the end.

I've watched the video several times. Yes it does show a E55 passing a Porsche. That in no way means that a E55 is a better track car. It means the driver of the E55 is a better track driver. If you put Hans Stuck in a E55 and me in a formula one car he could still beat me around the track. That does not mean that the E55 is a better track car. It means that Hans is a better driver.
What I saw in the video is a very good driver in the E55 passing a less experienced driver, just look at the lines the Porsche took.
Horsepower to weight. My E55 is a great car but certainly not a better track car then a 996tt and anyone who argues such has obviously not spent time in a 996tt.
I am comparing stock vehicles.

Where did you get those times from? Are they possible Topgear show times?
Great video, you definitely out drove the guys in the porsche.
With good drivers there is no way an e55 could've kept up but this obviously isn't the case. Nice driving, the guy in the black turbo must have been pissed when he saw the big *** sedan pass him in the straight away

Very surprising - but there we have it - video evidence. The times listed on the topgear show had the 996tt in soaking rain - so scrub that time as representative. Also I have heard the E55 is quicker roudna track than a CLS ... sorry dont want to start another argument - but read it somewhere on this forum - so the E55 could be well up on the times shown.
In terms of power to weight and my trips in a 996tt out of corners and into corners it should clearly beat the E55 guys come on. You cannot fight that huge weight disadvantage.
Thats not to say the E55 was unimpressive - particulary how the 996tt could not really pull away out of corners where it should be at its best... and then be passed on the straight !!! mmmm....
What is impressive though is how easy it seems it is to drive the E55 fast - seems the guy in the 996tt was clearly a novice and particularly on one occasion outbreaked himself and got rattled.... the passing move on the straight seemed so overwhelming that the 996tt clearly backed off.
Anyhow - now I can tell my brother in law his 996tt got smoked by my yet to arrive E55 ...!!!
Now that may cause a family fued of note.
Great video none the less - thanks man.
Rgds Steve.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
I first hand knowledge about running 997 TT X50 on the street. Granted it's not on a track but my friend having to row the gears could not keep up with my E55. He was big PO'd. He called Porsche the next day and told them something was wrong with his car. They asked him about the situation and when he told them that he was toying with a E55 they said that if he was not a pro or driving the Porsche competively on a routine basis he could forget about keeping up with the E55 unless he was on a tight road course.
My friend has put his money down for the new more powerful 2006/7. Supposed to have 500+HP. He hasn't beat me yet, no matter how much he spends on his cars. He's still trying to out run my Vette. Unfortunately he doesn't know thing about squeezing HP out a turnip. I'm not a pro but I have driving my Vette for 16 years and can definitely get the maximum out of it. He only knows how to spend mo money. I'll just turn up the nitrous. HA HA. I love it.

Rafal,
Nice driving! Those tires are doing their job really well and you pulled hard on the 996 on the straights. I can't believe how much ground you made up coming off that corner.
It will only get better as you make the engine more efficient.

Can't believe the car is stock.... the fact that you can even keep up with a 911 on a track in a 4 door family sedan says a lot. Beating them is just icing on the cake. But I am sure even if he was driving better, you would be in the thick of the race. The E55 engine is a work of art.... what a great car...
