AMG Challenge at Lime Rock a BLAST

Got home a little while ago from an awesome track event. Great from start to finish. I am too tired to post details, and need to figure out where to post my pics and videos - including a couple of an SLR blowing down the front straight at 140 plus.

It was nice to meet so may AMG enthusiasts and great instructors (Tom Kendall, Derek Hill, Jeff Andretti) and great to meet PeterB/M5Killer.

More details to come tomorrow.

I have pics from Advanced Course today and will post tomorrow. Weather was incredible and so was the action.

BTW the SLR made it back from 'The Workshop' in time for the day and a few of us had hot laps with Tommy Kendall driving in it. And I do mean hot ... :v :v :v

It was a perfect day for the Graduate course and everyone had a great time. The SLR and the SL65 blowing down the front straight was an awesome sight. Sorry I had to leave shortly after the awards and get on the road and didn't get to see you when I was leaving.

Stephen - yeah I was pretty beat, but you had a much longer drive ahead of you. Just 3 hours for me to get home. Nice to catch up with you at the Interlaken though.

Yep ... blue group had the *ringers* Us *regular guys* couldn't quite keep up. Still ... a couple of us in yellow group had the same or better time than Jeff Andretti did in the advance line course. Nice job to Tim and 'Speedy' Bob!

It was pretty surreal having Tommy Kendall doing a 'CBS interview' of GJ after he took the lead.

Will post pics tonight ... including the seal gray Carrera GT that one of the participants drove.

Prizes?

Did somebody win one of those $7.7K IWC watches for having the best autoX time? They gave one out at the last session. I did both days at Homestead in May, and they gave out a plastic radio controlled car to Chappy who had the best time. RC toy vs. IWC watch. Hah! What a gyp!!

Unfortunately though, we didn't have a SLR in the line-up. That must have been awesome!

Hey guys:
I was one of your instructors at the AMG Challenge event this past weekend. It sounds like everyone had a terrific time; I know I did! I was in the car that was stalking GJ with an older gent who was almost as fast as he was. It was something else watching him hang the rear of the E55 out (with ESP on!) in the left hander while we were following. He would slowly get away from us until West Bend where invariably we would encounter traffic. Then we'd pull a double pass on the front straight and do it again. I really got a lot of satisfaction taking some of the participants who went from hesitant (to put it mildly) to taking the uphill at full throttle! I got plenty of yee-haws!
I posted some pix at http://jblumenfeld.photosite.com/

The audio track? Man that's been stuck in my head for life! The SLR thundering down the front straight; wow. And I thought that the CLS55 had a wonderful growl at full throttle. As the ditty goes, "If I were a rich man...".

It was a great 2 days (Tues. and Wed.) but now for the $64,000 question. For all you "Challenger's" was the CLS so much better handling wise than the E55? I did not think so. I keep reading all the auto journalists who say it is much better but I didn't get that at all. I asked Jeff Andretti, Tommy Kendall, and some of the other instructors and they all agreed-E55 is better on the track.

I agree with Chris - actually we were talking specifically about it on Wed. I was looking to swap out for a CLS 55 - but I'm waiting for a S63 - Calendar year 2007 according to Rob

More photos

What a day it was - from the advanced line / autocross to the skidpad to the passing excercises to the full track timed lapping we were motorheads in heaven.

One of the best experiences was getting in the SLR with Tommy Kendall for a romp. That was surreal.

You'll see below it made quite an impression - the SLR is featured prominently

Three cheers for yellow team! Kim, Robert, Tim, SpeedyBob etc.

First - some interesting cars arrive (participants cars):
