need exhaust advice

eventually, I will get the pulley, chip and headers but for now I just want the beast (04 E55) a bit louder and meaner sounding. There seem to be lots of exhaust parts underneath and I'm not sure if my local muff shop will know what to replace. Sooooooo, please advise in your opinion the least expensive (is it ok to say that) way to get 'that' sound. tia mp

Chop off your resonators and replace them with a straight pipe.
Cost?
400$ MAX. That's with like a gold plated pipe too... I did that on my LS400 and all my friends do it. We did about three cars for 400$ total.

It sure beats spending a few grand on an Eisenmann exhaust or Supersprint, but then again, you don't gain anything from all the R&D they did, all the testing they did, and what not.

It's really the 'muffler' part.
We just run straight instead of that, so the last few feet is straight and the sound is usually normal on idle, but really rips open on WOT.

Its a little more than that, at least for my setup with Evosport. The sound is perfect, no drone but when you floor it... it screams. I have the resonator and 2nd cat deletes.

The Evosport straight pipes have gone through very tought R&D testing.

If you want a relatively inexpensive setup, call Mike Wilson at evosport (www.evosport.com) and get their setup like how Vic has it. It's cheaper than getting a full exhaust setup, but it'll pretty much do the same thing.

I'm estatic.
Keep on doing it, and I might even have the guts to ask you to a race.. just so I can hear your car!

04 E500 Brabus Wagon
exhaust upgrade

Headers and all new out the AMG tips with a supercharged car is a great performance upgrade but it is a bit spendy to do right. A more cost effective way to substantially improve the sound in either a supercharged or normally aspirated E55, without causing problems, is to start behind the cats and replace the entire stock dual exhaust system.
I had a new dual in dual out stainless Magnaflow muffler installed right behind the cats and had my custom exhaust guy fabricate two new 2.5" stainless pipes along the same route as the stock ones then reused the stock amg tips. My car is mellow but with authority when driving around normal but when you nail it the sound is truely Euroupean V-8 muscle.
Before the new duals I just had the resonator removed and it was a bit better but nothing as nasty exotic sounding as a replaced custom built system that cost me about $800.
