Adding phone after factory??
This may be an old subject but...I can't get any hits on the search.
I just purchased a 2006 E55. It was the only one my dealer had coming for quite a while so I took what they had. The one option the vehicle did not have that I wanted was the integrated mobile phone option.
Question.
With the newer wiring harnesses in the 06, is there any way to add a fully functional factory phone set up?
I have the buttons on the Command center.
The dealer says no, we all know what that means though..clueless.
Thanks for your help
Josh

Check with Steve @ MBenzNL, he may be able to retrofit it.

I had an MB phone added to my 03 E500 and it worked perfectly. I did the same with my 05 E55 and so far after a year of ownership have yet to have it work correctly. I'm taking it in to have it worked on again for the 4th time.
MB phones suck. I have had 3 become obsolete after 1 to 3 years of use. I would highly recommend checking out non MB phones that can interface. Mikbox or Steve, as mentioned above might be the best alternative. I still may switch my factory phone to one with Bluetooth if and when it is available.
Needless to say I think MB electronics/phones/voice control stink.
Regardless even with this flaw I still love my car. It's like a beautiful woman who is perfect until you get married and live with them. They all have warts.

i agree with vetluver, there is a lot of room for improvement for these systems, but i'm looking forward to AWS taking over and giving us more phones and options than just the motorola.
however, even when they do, they will require that the current system be built into your car and that you just swap out the phone or cradle in the driver side roll top storage.

I am going to call a VZW service tech tomorrow and see if they have the firmware to adapt a standard 710 to work in an MB.
Thanks everyone for your help, I have been on a lot of car discussion boards and this is by far the most helpfull and mature bunch of people out there!

is where you might find those files. Verizon won't have the special file. you'll need a special motorola upload program as well. poke around on their forum and you should find what you need.

I recently got a V710 for personal use and was wondering do you have to have a MB version to use with the MB parts your dealer ordered for you. If possible I would like to use my new phone in my 05 rather than the supplied V60x.

your personal v710 from cingular or from whomever needs a mercedes version flex file (equivalent of operating system and software). you can upload it yourself. keeps same functionality as regular v710, just adds some more.
not sure if your v710 will work with a v60 kit though. that kit is old. also not sure if it will work with a v600 kit either. you might need a different cradle. v710 is not GSM, V600 is.
