New Purchase

Okay, I just purchased a 2005 Ford GT with zero miles. It is red with white stripes. I should have it by thursday. The best qtr mile test I saw with the Ford was 11.2 but most have been in the 11.6 range. My modified E55 (which I am keeping) ran 11.64 flat. I will post pictures late next week.

No I have been looking for awhile and it is impossible to get at list. I think the difference was worth it considering what a ferrari costs.

Holy crap Sab....that's incredible.

Yeah, I read the same about the GT.....@11.6.

Just curious as to your buying/thought process on the GT. Obviously you can afford about any high dollar car and was wondering why you would pass on Lambo/F430/SL65/SLR. Of course the GT speaks for itself, but those others sure aren't too shabby. I just don't know if I could have made any choice...too many super cars out there I WANT.

I am begging for pics AND video so I can hear the sound.

Congrats.

Thanks Jakpro1
I don't know how I decided. All the cars you mentioned are great. The F430 coupe would have realistically cost me 30K more for the same performance (GT is a little faster in a straight line but the F430 is better in turns and braking) and the GT is lower in statue. This was my toughest choice because the ferrari is clearly more refined than the GT. The Lambo would have cost me a little less than the GT but there is a difference in performance and I am starting to see more of them on the road (my buddy just got a yellow one). The SL 65 would have been the fastest qtr mile car but they are clearly not a road car in the sense of the GT (heavier with related handling and braking) I also understand that they lose value fairly quickly. The SLR is clearly out of my range for what I would pay for a car.
Overall, to me the GT was the best looking "race car like" that had the best potential to hold its value well. Again, I am not knocking any of these cars. It is a matter of personal taste. For the money, I still think the E55 does it best.

Seems like prices have been dropping, I have seen a few on ebay for 5k over and read about some starting to be sold at list. I have been toying with the idea for a couple of months since I sold my 360. I am kind of going through what you went through. I am going between gallardo,f430 or waiting for the 997 tt. I have been swaying towards a gallardo just because I think its a good value in the low 150's used, and it really had that exotic feel to it like the 360. Now if I could only sell my TT. Goodluck and can't seem wait to see hear dome feedback.

Thanks Duane,
I pursued some of the 5k over list on ebay and every other source I could find. All have proven to be false, misleading or "send me the money and wait". I could not try anymore so I went with the cheapest over list offer I could find that was from a reputable source (a ford dealer). If you actual find a real deal please let me know. I think you will find what I did; once you get serious, the facts change. Good luck

That's odd. An acquaintance of mine recently purchased his GT at list. He'd have no reason to lie about it.
Either way, it is an impressive car.

Well all I can say is I tried my best. Your friend just made a great deal on his purchase because he could turn around and sell it to the other buyers I have met that have been seriously looking. If your friend would settle for $20k over list ($173k) and the car has less than 500 miles with the stripes, optional rims and sound system please PM me and I can put him in touch with two buyers who will pay cash at that price. Both of them are qualified buyers and have been in the market as long as I have and we have been conferring daily on our efforts for "list". Please let me know,
thanks

Congrats on the purchase. If you can drive the car, it'll go low 11's, maybe even 10's. This means powershifting her (keep foot planted in the gas, jab clutch pedal and throw it in gear) (This is how I shift my car, and it was worth 3/10th's when the car was bone stock...close to 1/2 sec or more now, probably. Actually one of the best shifter's I've seen comes from your neck of the woods in LI. Here is a vid of John From LI showing how to properly powershift.

I don't think he'd sell for awhile.

Your last statement summed it up best....but do you really think a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, or a Mercedes will have a lower resale percentage value than a Ford?

I don't really know, I am just going by the big loss my buddy took on his 2004 340 Ferrari after the 430 was announced and the prices on used V12 mercedes. I am hoping that since the production run on the GT is somewhat limited, it may make a difference. But hey, I bought it for fun anyway.

Saber, Excellent choice. Living here in O.C. California I cant tell you how numb i have become to all exotic cars latley. I saw 3 porsche GT's, 2 F430's, 2 SLR's, 1 Enzo and that is only a few of many "Hard to get" cars i saw on Sunday alone d (dont get me started on how many of our E55 i see everyday!) With the Ford GT, It is definitly on the same level as the cars i mentioned and I have maybe seen two in the last year. I am glad to see that you were not influenced by the obvious and that you made a choice with some thouhgt to it.
Congratulations and Enjoy!
