Saw a bunch of video clips from this website ...gotta admit...the M5 walks the AMGs from what appears to be 80-100mph plus. At the end of the SL55 video the M5 has to be at least 7-8 cars ahead...that is a MAJOR *** whoppin.

You gotta figure these M5s are putting down 450 to the wheel, with no slip at 0 do due low torque and weight 200lbs less with much more agressive gearing. I wouldn't buy was cuz they are ugly and about 15K over priced but I think they will give any 55 AMG with mods a great run.

Have you seen any posted 1/4 miles times for the M5?
If so can you post them.
Thanks

I have not but I would expect the mags to come out with 12.2@118 or so...just a guess. The E39 ran 13.1/13.2@108 with 100 less HP....

so subtract off 1.0 on the ET and add 10mph and you'd expect to be at 12.1-.2@118.

I think most modded E55s should beat a stock M5 to 100mph but way up high (similar to the Supra) it looks to be formidable.

when do they hit the streets? can't wait to hear real world experience other than these videos.

Congrats!! Let us know what you think.

The gearing on the M5 is so close (and two extra gears) that it will pull on the top end by keeping the car in the peak power band without gear drop-off over 80. Should be no contest stock for stock. I continue to believe that the M5 (US-Spec) will be marginally quicker in the quarter at best. I wouldn't even be surprised if the car is "only" running mid-12's at 119 mph. (the "only" is still damn quick) I think it will suffer relative to the E55 from a standing start because it gives up low end grunt. We won't know for sure until the M5's hit the strips in the area. Soon enough. But make no mistake, the M5 SHOULD walk a stock E55 pretty handily at 80 mph plus.

I've read lots of posts on the M5, and that car has an incredibly long break-in period - some report it to be 3,500 miles and some even higher. And most of their owners are following the break-in period pretty obediently. I've had my E since August of 2004, and I barely have 5,500 miles. I can't imagine waiting that long to drive my car hard. It must be killing these poor guys.

Just further enforces the fact that the new N/A E63 with proper gearing is gonna be just as "bad ***".....unfortunately, what we see is what we get though....only mods will be the 5hp ecu and ??hp headers, but let's hope for the best.

From all of the articles I have read the M5 is supposed to be an amazing machine. I am still not completely sold on the styling but I could probably deal with it. Even if they can beat us after 80 and around a track, you won't hear any complaints here as I have to drive my E around every day.
Nothing quite like having 516 lb/ft of torque at 2800 rpm around town... gotta love it.

makes more sence now that a few people put there cars on a dyno.A swedish mag got 471rwhp on a dyno so it really explains why the m pulls so hard up top end.the car is making about 550-560 crank hp if those numbers are true.

The FTP appears to be down at the moment...

However...

I did manage to see the video this man is referring to. It is an SL55 vs the OLD E39 M5 which is TUNED to goodness knows how much, its a "Nowack N500S". This E39 M5 manages to leave the SL55 at apparently 100mph+

hmmm... NO WONDER !

The other videos are well known on this forum. The race that took place between the E55 vs the E60 M5 in The Netherlands somewhere (which the M5 won at around 5th gear or 130mph+ with allegedly 15 people in the M5)
The other one is the middle-east E55 (which was allegedly chipped...goodness knows by how much, perhaps 3-4hp?) vs. E60 M5. at NIGHT.

These are the only evidential vidoes that M5 lovers keep throwing around the internet in order to feed their over-inflated ego's. Mercedes enthusiasts are WILLING TO CONCEDE THE M5 IS FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why can't they just leave it at that? We have to put up with continous, ruthless, pointless, dikheaded threads which time after time reiterate "the M5 is faster...the m5 is faster...the m5 is faster..." Will you people just P1SS OFF?

WE KNOW THE M5 IS FASTER!!!! It puts out more torque to the wheels than the 55 AMG's, how can it NOT be faster?

FWIW, I'm a regular lurker on M5board, not a member, Gustav refused that clearly, but from what I can see, people giving up their build slots, people with transmission and engine failures, and people who think its just ugly, does make you wonder.....

I feel ashamed writing this post knowing full-well how you M5 lover's have dragged me down to your level. Pathetic.

One thing to note though is there are ZERO (as far as I know) races between an M5 and a 55 amg from zero mph....all are from a roll to illustrate the gearing and hp of the M5. I would expect the races to look like that of a Supra.....the M5 reeling in the 55 amgs by 100mph and passing them strong.
